Smiths Station Fire Protection District, d/b/a Smiths Station Fire & Rescue is dispatched by the Lee County Sheriff's office 911 center and responds to Fire, EMS, Rescue, and other calls in the city of Smiths Station, AL along with the surrounding unincorporated areas of Lee County, AL. We have 6 Fire Stations strategically located throughout our ~76 square mile service area respond to approximate

ly 3,000 emergency calls per year. Station 1: 50 Lee Rd 430 (across from Lee County Flea Market)

Station 2: 8628 Lee Rd 246 (Near Sawyers Mobile Home Park)

Station 3: 13080 US Hwy 280W (Next to the Ruritan Club in Bleeker)

Station 4: 431 Lee Rd 197 (Near Intersection of Lee Rd 437)

Station 5: 9500 Lee Rd 240 (Near Intersection of Lee Rd 212)

Station 6: 50 Lee RD 315 (Near Intersection of LR 315 & LR248)

Smiths Station Fire Protection District is a combination fire department with full-time and part-time fire and EMS staff and approximately 30 volunteers.

NOW HIRING - FULL-TIME FIREFIGHTER

The Smiths Station Fire Protection District is accepting applications for a full-time Firefighter, Firefighter-EMT, or Firefighter-Paramedic position.

We offer a 48/96 shift schedule, competitive pay based on certification and experience, RSA retirement, District-paid health insurance contributions, PTO accrual based on experience, and five paid holidays with premium pay.

Pay Ranges:
- Firefighter (Grade 16) $51,171.38-$77,863.31
- Firefighter-EMT (Grade 17) $53,761.93-$81,805.14
- Firefighter-Paramedic (Grade 19) $59,343.11-$90,297.56

Applications will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on September 1, 2026.

🚸 School Starts Tomorrow! 🚸

Tomorrow marks the beginning of a brand-new school year, and we couldn't be more excited for students, teachers, school staff, and families!

As our roads become busier with school buses, young drivers, pedestrians, and children walking to and from school, we ask everyone to slow down and stay alert. Please obey school zone speed limits, stop for school buses when required, avoid distractions, and leave a few minutes early so you don't have to rush.

A little extra patience and caution can make all the difference in keeping our community safe.

From all of us at Smith Station Fire Protection District, we wish every student, teacher, administrator, and school employee a safe, successful, and amazing school year. Let's work together to make sure everyone gets to school and back home safely each day.

During July 2026, Smiths Station Fire Protection District personnel responded to 273 incidents throughout the community.

July responses included 207 medical incidents, 28 public service calls, 32 no-emergency or canceled responses, and 6 fire incidents. Medical responses accounted for nearly 76% of the District's total call volume for the month.

From January 1 through July 31, 2026, District personnel responded to 1,937 incidents.

These numbers reflect the continued demand placed on the District's fire and emergency medical resources and the broad range of services our personnel provide each day. We remain committed to providing dependable, professional service to the Smiths Station community.

There's just something special about this time of year.

Summer is winding down, school is almost back in session, and that can only mean one thing... it's almost football season! 🏈🐾

One of our favorite traditions each year is stopping by Smiths Station High School to help cool down the band after a hot summer practice. Watching these students put in countless hours of hard work and dedication reminds us that they're just as committed to excellence as the first responders who serve this community.

To the students, directors, staff, and volunteers: thank you for all the effort you put in to make Panther Pride shine. We hope you enjoyed a little break from the heat!

🚨 HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT TODAY 🚨

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Central Alabama, including our area. Heat index values are expected to reach 105°–109°, creating dangerous conditions for anyone spending time outdoors.

🌞 Stay Safe in the Heat:
💧 Drink plenty of water—even if you don't feel thirsty.
⏰ Limit outdoor work and activities during the hottest part of the day (typically 11 AM–6 PM).
❄️ Stay in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible. Fans alone may not be enough in extreme heat.
👕 Wear lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing.
🚗 Never leave children, pets, or vulnerable adults in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes.
👴 Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone without reliable air conditioning.

⚠️ Watch for signs of heat-related illness, including dizziness, headache, nausea, confusion, excessive sweating, or hot, dry skin. If someone shows signs of heat stroke, call 911 immediately.

NOW HIRING: Full-Time Paramedic or Firefighter-Paramedic

The Smiths Station Fire Protection District is accepting applications for a full-time paramedic or firefighter-paramedic. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

The pay range is $56,483.63-$85,946.52 for Paramedic and $59,343.11-$90,297.56 for Firefighter-Paramedic.

This morning, our personnel joined Deputies from the Lee County Sheriff's Office Alabama, for an impromptu Touch-a-Truck event. We enjoyed spending time with the children, showing them our equipment, and giving them an opportunity to meet local first responders. Thank you to the Lee County Sheriff's Office for the partnership and a great morning in the community.
