⚠️ Severe Weather Awareness – Tuesday, July 21, 2026 ⚠️
The Washington County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association is encouraging all residents to prepare for the potential of strong to severe thunderstorms expected to impact the Washington County area this afternoon and evening.
Forecasts indicate storms may produce:
🌩️ Frequent lightning
💨 Damaging wind gusts capable of downing trees and power lines
🌧️ Torrential rainfall leading to localized flash flooding
🧊 Large hail
🌪️ An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out in parts of the Mid-Atlantic.
Now is the time to prepare:
✅ Secure outdoor furniture, grills, and other loose items.
✅ Charge your cell phones and essential electronic devices.
✅ Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, especially if storms occur after dark.
✅ Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, and never drive through flooded roadways—Turn Around, Don't Drown.
✅ If thunder roars, go indoors. Move to a sturdy building and stay away from windows until the storm has passed.
If you encounter downed power lines, flooded roadways, or other storm-related emergencies, call 911 immediately. For non-emergency issues, contact your local utility provider or appropriate agency.
The Washington County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association will continue to monitor conditions and encourages everyone to stay informed through the National Weather Service and local emergency management officials as forecasts and warnings are updated.
