RSVP Suffolk

RSVP Suffolk RSVP's mission is to provide diverse volunteer opportunities for people 55 and older. Visit www.rsvpsuffolk.org for programs and volunteer opportunities.

We support older Americans who wish to remain active and make a difference in their communities. RSVP’s dedicated and knowledgeable staff is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 4:30 to answer any questions you may have regarding the project or RSVP’s own services or how to enroll in RSVP. Program Coordinators will set up an appointment for you to visit one of our offices to discuss with

them what opportunities are available in your local area or what openings may suit your interests. Staff will act as the liaison for setting up an introduction at the chosen volunteer station and will remain in touch with the volunteer as to their satisfaction with the volunteer placement.

Juneteenth (short for June Nineteenth) is a U.S. holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. It marks the day — June 19, 1865 — when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were finally informed that they were free, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Abraham Lincoln (January 1, 1863).

From Nassau to Suffolk County, the Alzheimer’s Association Long Island Chapter is here to help.

They provide education and support, advocate for the needs and rights of those facing dementia, and advance critical research to develop new treatments and, ultimately, a cure.

June is Alzheimer's and Brain Health Awareness Month, and purple is the official color of the Alzheimer's movement.

This is an opportunity to hold a conversation about the brain, and share the fact that Alzheimer's disease and other dementias are a major public health issue.

To find out more information, contact the Long Island chapter at www.alz.org/longisland.

SUFFOLK COUNTY OFFICE OF THE AGING

The annual Suffolk County Office for the Aging 2025 Senior of the Year reception was held on May 9, 2025.

Suffolk County Office for the Aging recognizes and celebrates the achievements of Seniors who have touched countless lives through volunteering.

RSVP’s Edith Tackenberg was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation.

Edith has a very active and busy life with family and friends, but she still makes the time to support RSVP by being a volunteer counselor for RSVP’s HIICAP program for over 10 years.

Edith also volunteers her kindness by reaching out to fellow seniors through our Telephone Reassurance Program. Our senior clients love chatting with Edith.

In addition, she delivers meals to the homebound and volunteers with a local food pantry.

She cares about our community and makes a difference in the lives of many seniors every day.

We are so glad that Edith is part of RSVP, we are lucky to have her!!!!

Suffolk County Exec. Ed Romaine with Edith Tackenberg.
