Yesterday, Congressman Nick LaLota presented the Town of Smithtown with $6.1 million in federal funding that will directly benefit our residents.

This includes $1.1 million to extend public water mains to homes impacted by contaminated private wells, ensuring families have access to safe, reliable drinking water without facing overwhelming costs on their own.

Congressman LaLota also secured $5 million for critical road and infrastructure improvements in Smithtown. At a time when materials, labor, equipment, and everyday costs continue to rise — and Albany continues to fall short in sending Long Island its fair share — this funding keeps our tax dollars where they belong: right here on Long Island.

On behalf of the Town of Smithtown, I am deeply grateful to Congressman LaLota for fighting for our residents, protecting our drinking water, strengthening our infrastructure, and helping ease the burden on local taxpayers.

This funding means safer roads, healthier homes, and a stronger future for Smithtown.

This Memorial Day, we pause as a community to honor the fallen heroes who gave their lives so that we may live free.

From the ordinary tradesmen and farmers who laid down their tools and picked up arms in the Revolutionary War, to the brave men and women of our United States Armed Forces serving in dangerous conflicts around the world today, the story of America has always been carried forward by those willing to stand between freedom and tyranny.

Across generations, on battlefields from Lexington and Concord to Gettysburg, from the beaches of Normandy to Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and beyond, Americans have answered the call with courage, discipline, and a love for their fellow man that is difficult to fully comprehend. They laid down their lives not for recognition, but in service to something greater than themselves — their country, their families, their brothers and sisters in uniform, and the generations they would never meet.

We owe them everything.

As we gather today, let us also hold close the Gold Star families and loved ones who carry the weight of that sacrifice every day. Their empty chairs, quiet grief, and enduring strength remind us that the cost of freedom is not measured in history books alone, but in the lives forever changed by loss.

May we honor the fallen not only in reflection, but with the way we live. Let us strive to be better citizens, better neighbors, and better Americans in memory of the better men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

We remember them. We honor them. We will never forget them.

During National Police Week, I was proud to join the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety at Town Hall to honor the extraordinary men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting and serving our community.

This year’s Promotion & Awards Ceremony recognized remarkable acts of bravery, leadership, and public service — from lifesaving rescues during the historic January blizzard to courageous emergency responses and proactive law enforcement efforts that helped keep illegal weapons off our streets.

Congratulations to all of this year’s honorees, including Sgt. Brendan Dennihy, recipient of the 2026 Peace Officer of the Year Award, Fire Marshal Kyle McCarthy, Park Ranger Leyland Crocilla, Senior Fire Marshal Matthew Raia on his promotion, and the members of the Old Northport Road Task Force for their outstanding service to the residents of Smithtown.

I thank every member of the Department of Public Safety for their sacrifice, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to our community. Smithtown is safer because of your dedication and courage each and every day.

Big things are happening in the Long Island Innovation Park at Hauppauge. 🚧✨
Yesterday, we joined regional leaders, business partners, and community stakeholders to celebrate the groundbreaking of Mason Technologies’ new $30 million corporate headquarters right here in Smithtown. This transformative investment represents more than growth — it’s a powerful statement about the future of innovation, economic development, and opportunity in Suffolk County.
Congratulations to Jennifer Mason, Adam Mason, and everyone who helped make this milestone possible as we continue building a stronger future for generations to come.

Sharing a few more photos from last Thursday’s incredible evening supporting America's VetDogs and the Dog Foundation for the Blind at the Foundation Annual Dinner.

The night was a powerful reminder of the life-changing impact these organizations have on our veterans and first responders. I was especially moved by the inspiring words of Master Sergeant Gretchen Evans, whose story of resilience, sacrifice, and hope left a lasting impression on everyone in the room.

We are proud that Smithtown will soon be home to a new 30,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility that will help expand this critical mission for generations to come. Thank you to Vet Dogs CEO and President John Miller, the Strata Foundation, Joe Campolo, and all those who worked tirelessly to make this vision a reality right here in our community.

Yesterday, I was proud to join Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine, Vincent Puleo Suffolk County Clerk, Legislator Sal Formica, Councilwoman Lisa Inzerillo, Councilman Tom Lohmann, the HIA-LI, the Suffolk County Alliance of Chambers, Inc. Suffolk IDA and many more local officials and business leaders to celebrate the groundbreaking of Mason Technologies’ new corporate headquarters in the Long Island Innovation Park at Hauppauge — the second largest industrial park in the United States after Silicon Valley. Congratulations to Mason Technologies Inc. Founder, President & CEO Jennifer Mason and Vice President of Partner Relations Adam Mason on this incredible milestone!

Congratulations also to HIA-LI Board Chair Anthony Manetta Board Member Devin Kulka, and Kelly Murphy for helping make this transformative project possible. Special thanks to HIA-LI President & CEO Terri Alessi-Miceli and Director of Business Development Anthony Forgione.

This $30 million investment is far more than a corporate expansion — it is a powerful statement about the future of Suffolk County, the Long Island Innovation Park at Hauppauge, and the continued economic momentum of the Town of Smithtown. Mason Technologies’ new state-of-the-art headquarters will not only support the company’s remarkable growth, housing more than 230 full-time employees with plans to create 25 additional jobs within two years, but will also strengthen our region’s reputation as a hub for innovation, technology, and opportunity. As a Suffolk County and nationally certified Women’s Business Enterprise, Mason Technologies embodies the entrepreneurial spirit, ingenuity, and determination that fuel our local economy.

Projects like this are exactly why Smithtown continues to thrive. With economic engines such as Mason Technologies, the Long Island Innovation Park at Hauppauge, and the leadership and advocacy of HIA-LI, our community continues to attract investment, create high-quality jobs, and build a stronger future for generations to come.

This is exactly the kind of investment that strengthens our economy, creates opportunity for future generations, and reinforces why the Long Island Innovation Park at Hauppauge remains one of the most important economic engines in New York State.

Thursday night, I had the privilege of attending the Strata Foundation Annual Dinner honoring the extraordinary mission of America's VetDogs. These two organizations dedicate every effort to serving our veteran community with dignity, compassion, and purpose.

While many of the 4-legged guests were attracting most of the limelight… I was so incredibly moved by the guest speaker! Master Sergeant Gretchen Evans, delivered one of the most moving and powerful speeches I have ever witnessed. After serving nine tours including Afghanistan and Iraq and commanding more than 30,000 troops, she shared the devastating injuries she sustained during a mortar attack that left her deaf and suffering from traumatic brain injury. Most profoundly, she spoke about how receiving a service dog from America’s VetDogs saved her life when she had needed hope. The power of Yes… she called it. There was not a dry eye in the room.

Thursday’s event reinforced the importance of an exciting new chapter for America’s Vet Dogs and the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind: the construction of a state-of-the-art 30,000-square-foot facility right here in Smithtown that will expand their life-changing mission for veterans, and first responders. The reality is simple — the need for service dogs far outpaces the number that can currently be trained and placed.

This project represents hope for countless veterans and families, and it would not be possible without the tremendous leadership and commitment of John Miller, organizations like the Strata Foundation, Joe Campolo, our dedicated Buildings Department, Planning and Engineering teams, and so many others who fought tirelessly to keep America’s VetDogs in Smithtown.

This will become a true flagship project — one that reflects our community’s unwavering commitment to those who have sacrificed so much for our country. We competed against major cities like Atlanta, and in the end, Smithtown’s dedication to America’s VetDogs and our nation’s bravest prevailed. But the mission never ends. Every person who supports America’s VetDogs helps ensure this life-changing work continues for generations to come.
