Senator Mario R. Mattera

Senator Mario R. Mattera Senator Mario Mattera was elected to the 2nd Senate District of the New York State Senate - which in

As someone who has lived and worked in the 2nd Senate District his entire life, Mario understands the needs of local families and the need to reduce the impact Albany’s tax burden is placing on our way of life. As a longtime union leader in the Plumbers Local Union #200, he has cultivated a keen understanding of the needs of our working men and women and how a good economic climate is essential to

helping local businesses create much-needed jobs that provide workers with decent pay and benefits. And as a father and husband, he is personally aware that the key to achieving all of this is ensuring that everyone has access to a quality education. This understanding and his experience in the region will help Mario serve the residents of the 2nd Senate District and bring their voice to Albany. As a member and leader of the Plumbers Local Union #200 union for over 39 years, Mario has dedicated himself to working to protect the needs of Long Island’s workers and their families. That has led him to oversee the protection of over 1,300 working men and women and manage over $250 million in benefit funds to protect their futures. It has also provided him with the opportunity to help his fellow union brothers and sisters gain access to good paying jobs while ensuring that they have safe work environments where their rights are protected. For his work on behalf of his fellow members, Mario has been presented with the Order Sons of Italy in America’s Golden Lion Award as 2019’s Labor Leader of the Year as well as the PBA Columbia’s 2012 Labor Leader of the Year. He has also led the way for the younger generation of union employees by serving 25 years as a board member on the apprenticeship program at Plumbers Local Union #200 to improve their opportunities and to ensure that our region has a qualified workforce. In his community, Mario has continued the hard work he has delivered for the union members to the lives of his fellow Long Islanders by dedicating his time to his community. To ensure that all have a better quality of life, he has dedicated himself to helping local organizations and has served as a board member on the St. Catherine’s Health And Wellness Advisory Board, the Suffolk County Water Authority, Community Association of Greater St. James and the Smithtown Advisory Board for new construction projects. His work with the Smithtown Advisory Board was part of their successful effort to work with Senator Flanagan to secure millions in state funding for sewers in the area. This funding will deliver sewers in the Smithtown, Kings Park and St. James business districts to protect the environment while also enhancing business opportunities for local business owners – leading to more jobs for those in the area. Additionally, he has joined efforts with the Work Force Housing Committee, Helmets to Hardhats for our returning veterans and the Long Island Housing Partnership where he assisted in their Superstorm Sandy relief program to help people in trying times. While Mario has undertaken these efforts for the betterment of his community, he is proud to have been recognized by the Children’s Museum at Hallock Farm, St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center and the Ward Melville Heritage Organization for his efforts.

The decision by New York City’s mayor to publicly turn his back on his Jewish constituents by not attending today’s parade is an insult to the office he holds. Mayor Mamdani is responsible for representing all New Yorkers regardless of their differing faith.

This parade is very important to many people and he is wrong to insult their faith by ignoring this parade.

This parade celebrates more than just the state of Israel - it celebrates the struggles, perseverance, and victories of all of Jewish faith.
By boycotting this parade, he is wrongfully alienating an entire community and disrespecting their faith.

I proudly stand with the Jewish community and the State of Israel, and I believe the mayor of New York City should rise above petty politics and show he stands for all New Yorkers.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani will not attend an annual parade honoring Israel. The fierce defender of Palestinian human rights is skipping the event as he remains under heavy scrutiny from some of the city’s Jewish population over his longstanding criticism of Israel.

The true spirit of American patriotism was alive in St. James on Memorial Day as neighbors, elected officials and veterans stood shoulder-to-shoulder to honor the brave souls who made the supreme sacrifice in service to our great nation.

This deeply moving tribute was made possible by the exceptional efforts of the VFW, American Legion, St. James Chamber of Commerce, our dedicated Scout Troops, and the St. James Fire Department.

Thank you for ensuring that the legacy of our fallen remains forever etched in the heart of our town with the utmost respect and gratitude this and every day.

God bless the United States of America!

Standing among community members at the Town of Huntington's annual Memorial Day gathering was a deeply moving experience.

We watched as wreaths were carefully laid at the base of monuments dedicated to the conflicts of WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, as well as our women veterans, ensuring that the heavy price of our freedom is never forgotten. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Supervisor Ed Smyth, Veterans Affairs Director Carol Rocco, the exceptional Huntington Mens Chorus, and the dedicated town staff for organizing such a beautiful tribute. May we always honor the memory of our fallen service members, and may peace look over the United States.

The late state budget that Albany Democrats FINALLY approved following closed-door meetings is a clear example of Albany Democrats dysfunction as it continues Albany’s never-ending effort to use OUR taxpayers as the state’s ATM. And even at $260 Billion, which is more than the budgets of Florida, Texas, South Dakota and North Dakota COMBINED, it fails on so many levels.

It is an election year, so New York State did put in some things for our hardworking men and women of labor and our ratepayers – but this budget did not do enough while spending way too much of taxpayer money to bail out New York City and other Democrat-controlled cities.

The out-of-control budget is awash with wasteful spending that is no wonder New York State has lost 2.5 million residents since 2020 with more planning to leave due to the dysfunction in Albany.

It is abundantly clear that a return of common sense is way overdue to make sure New Yorkers want to live and stay here. The unfortunate reality is that the ones leaving are the ones paying the bills and when they are all gone, so is the money for Albany Democrats’ agenda.

Last Friday, I had the wonderful opportunity to begin the Memorial Day weekend by visiting the men and women who reside at the Long Island State Veterans Home in Stony Brook for a special ceremony. These patriots are the very reason we enjoy the rights and privileges we have as Americans and it was very special to remember those who gave their lives for our nation alongside these brave veterans.

The day held even more significance to me as the LISVH is home to my Uncle Lou Maters, who is a Korean War veteran who served our nation as a United States Marine.

Together, we paid tribute to those who gave their lives in service to our nation and made the ultimate sacrifice for their fellow Americans. It was my honor to stand with these veterans to remember their fallen brethren.

God bless all of our veterans, God bless all who have given their lives in service and God bless the United States of America!
