Our fight :
On August 10, 2012 ... SSgt. Cody Rhode, 27; SSgt Scott Dickinson, 29; Cpl Richard Rivera, 20; & LCpl Gregory Buckley, 21 were unarmed, working out in a make-shift gym on the "Afghan controlled side" of their Forward Operating Base (FOB) Delhi in Garmsir District, Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
They were part of a Police Advisory Team. "PAT"
FOB Delhi was technically divided into three sections: the secured U.S. Marine section to the west, the Afghan Army section in the middle & to the east the Afghan National Police section which was in effect the local police station. The Police Advisory Team was ordered to live 24/7 with the Afghan Police they were assigned to train so as to "gain the trust of our Afghan partners" as per USMC. The Afghan National Police & their police recruits had unrestricted access to weapons & to our men 24/7.
Just days away from returning home Cody, Scott, Richie & Greg were among those ambushed by an unvetted 15 year old Afghan boy who was permitted by PAT leadership to live on FOB Delhi as one of the "tea boys / s*x slaves" of the Afghan District Police Chief Sarwar Jan. Police Chief Jan had come to live on FOB Delhi, with NINE young boys 17 days prior to the murders. These young boys were likely kidnapped from their families.
We now know what USMC leadership knew, but chose to ignore ~ these young boys were brought to the base by Sarwar Jan to be used as s*x slaves by Chief Jan & other members of the Afghan National Police who also lived on the base.
It's our belief that Jan who was known to be working with the Taliban may have been the mastermind behind the murders, perhaps because our Marines voiced objection to the child abuse
Immediatly following the shootings the shooter, Ainuddin, was captured by Marines on the base as he proudly proclaimed "I did jihad...I did jihad". Police Chief Sarwar Jan, was detained but released shortly after.
Our boys were not killed in combat, they were executed by an Afghan who had no legitimate reason to be on FOB Delhi.
In July 2014 Ainuddin Khuderiaham was tried in an Afghan court. The trial lasted one day & not one Marine, not one American, was there to represent our fallen Marines or their families. Ainuddin was found guilty & sentenced to just 7.5 years for the cold blooded murder of 3 U.S. Marines.
In late August 2013, one year after the boys were killed, we learned, that FOB Delhi leadership had requested and received a report, which was written by an Intelligence Officer in NowZad two years earlier, documenting the corrupt & deviant behaviors of Sarwar Jan. The report detailed how Jan was connected to the Taliban, how he sold American uniforms, ran guns & drugs, and most revoltingly of all was a pe*****le who kidnapped & sold children to other Afghan men for s*x. Clearly, those around him were in imminent danger. This warning came from a very credible source, one of the USMC's own ....
Major Jason Brezler was contacted indirectly by an officer connected to FOB Delhi about Sarwar Jan. They knew Major Brezler had a past history with Sarwar Jan & had him removed as Police Chief in NawZad.
On July 24, 2012 a fellow officer sent Brezler an email marked :
URGENT! Sarwar Jan Is Back!
Major Brezler was stateside & in a remote location. Brezler thought only of his brother Marines & the immediate danger they were in. He replied immediately & directly to FOB Delhi's request for information. He e-mailed the report on Jan.
We now know this email was not the only credible warning the PAT leaders & their command were given - there were others.
We know NOTHING was done to alert the PAT members or remove them to the more secure (Marine Only) side of the FOB or remove Sarwar Jan or the tea-boys, including Ainuddin from FOB Delhi.
Apparently dispite the fact that Green on Blue insider attacks were at an all time high,
NOTHING WAS DONE AND SEVENTEEN DAYS LATER FOUR MARINES WERE GUNNED DOWN IN COLD BLOOD AS THEY WORKED OUT , UNARMED, UNPROTECTED, IN THEIR GYM ON THE AFGHAN PART OF FOB DELHI.
Marine leadership knew of Jan's corruption, allegiance to Taliban & pe******ia, so WHY was he even allowed on another base that housed our Military?
We know at least half a dozen Marine leaders from DELHI & throughout Regional Command Southwest knew of Maj Brezler's warning and most knew of Sarwar Jan's depraved actions as far back as 2010.
We know many young Marines complained to leadership about Sarwar Jan & voiced concerns about the s*xual abuse he was inflicting on the little boys he brought on the base. We also know that those who spoke up were told to ignore it or look the other way.
Did the United States Marine Corps investigate & try to find out who gave the orders to ignore the warnings Maj. Brezler sent? NO they did not!
They didn't remove Jan & Ainuddin or take steps to protect or even warn our own men because they didn't want to "offend" the Afghans.
What did they do?
They went after Major Brezler!
Originally, in August 2012 when the e-mail was first sent USMC investigated and punished Maj. Brezler accordingly for sending the e-mail over an unsecure Yahoo account.
However, things changed dramatically a year later when Major Brezler heard we were still searching for the truth and were being stonewalled & lied to by the Corps at every turn. He decided to speak to his Congressman Peter King, the same Congressman who represented the Buckleys.
Brezler knew these murders should have been prevented and felt an obligation to his fallen brothers to help bring the truth to light. It was only then, late August 2013, days after The Marine Corps Times reported Rep. King planned to request a congressional inquiry into the murders that USMC ordered a Board of Inquiry trial. In December 2013 BOI met & ordered Maj. Brezler to be discharged from the Corps.
We believe USMC leadership & the Obama administration tried to punish Brezler for exposing the truth about the circumstances that led to the murders of our Marines.
The last thing they want is their dirty little secret of telling our military to "look the other way" while our Afghan partners, whose salary we pay, r**e little boys on our military bases.
Finally, after 3 long years of litigation, on December 6, 2016 the USMC's ruling was overturned in Federal Court.
NOW THEY ORDER A NEW BOI
Starting today as I write this
