Third Fridays at Abby Olson’s is over after 18 years. Wow! Someone said this was an end of an era. This is not the end, but rather a passing of the baton. It is with gratitude and a huge debt that we owe to someone who put herself out there to create a safe place for Conservatives and the Republican Party to meet. So look around to those that have served at a municipal, county state and even federal level. Abby Olson helped a lot of elected officials. Let’s not forget the timekeeper, Bill Olson, he was there too. Our spouses are sometimes the unsung heroes. Hats off to Abby (and Bill)! Thank you Abby (and Bill) for your service to the Republican Party at the municipal, county, state and federal level - you helped make a difference and the Republican Party and Missouri is a better place because of it! Cheers to a job well done, my friends!

The Supreme Court hollowed out the Voting Rights Act, striking a blow to the landmark civil rights-era law credited with increasing minority representation in Congress and elsewhere. The decision: In a 6-3 ruling, the conservative majority of the court struck down a majority Black congressional district in Louisiana as an “unconstitutional gerrymander.” Justice Samuel Alito’s opinion stated that the district relied too heavily on race.

My thoughts:

To assume I as a Cuban American and Naturalized Citizen will be expected to vote a certain way is insulting. To assume that if you have one drop of black blood, makes you Black goes back to the Jim Crowe era. We are going forward not back to the K*K era in America. Overgeneralizing is dangerous and racial (ethnic) profiling is wrong.

Don’t limit Americans based on their ethnicity or their race. We are all smart enough to do our due diligence and vote for whom we want to lead our local, county, state and Federal slots representing us all as “One America” for united we stand or divided we fall.
