May 5th is Bike to School Day!
Although we've not been able to do our normal Walk to School Wednesday or promote Bike to School Day like we have in the past, we sincerely hope that you will be walking and biking as much as possible with your kids. We hope to start this program again next fall. Thanks, as ever, for your support!

CITY OF SMITHVILLE GENERAL INFORMATION UPDATE - POST ARCTIC BLAST: The following information is provided regarding city facilities, services, and operating hours as of 2/20/21 (9:15 am):

BOIL WATER NOTICE – The BOIL WATER NOTICE is STILL IN EFFECT. The City’s overall water system pressure has returned to normal and is operating at 52 psi. We are waiting to receive our water sampling test results to confirm the water is safe to drink. The results are estimated to be released around 2:00 pm. If all samples come back NEGATIVE for contaminants, a BOIL WATER RECSIND NOTICE will be sent via a reverse 911 text and posting to social media outlets. Citizens are encouraged to run their faucet(s) 10-15 minutes NOW to clear any discoloration and reduce the overall system demand in advance of the boil water rescind notice. In the meantime, the City will continue to identify sources of bottled water for possible distribution.

WATER SHUT-OFF – The winter weather left hundreds of residents with broken water lines. Local plumbers are booked solid. If you need your water shut-off to complete repairs, there is a customer shut-off valve behind the water meter. If you cannot find your shut-off valve, contact City Hall at (512) 237-3282 Monday-Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm to request assistance. AFTER HOURS, contact the Smithville PD at (512) 237-3228.

NATURAL GAS – The City of Smithville does not provide natural gas service. Contact CenterPoint Energy --> https://www.centerpointenergy.com/en-us/

LEAF AND LIMB PICK-UP – Leaf and limb pick-up throughout the community will continue per the following schedule -> http://easyedit.ci.smithville.tx.us/filemanager/files/LEAF_AND_LIMB_DIAGRAM.pdf. The City Brush dump on Mt. Pleasant Road will remain open 24/7 for the next few weeks to give citizens the option to haul off brush, tree limbs, or trees themselves. Only vegetative debris is allowed at the City brush dump. Construction debris, furniture, or household garbage is not allowed to be dumped at this location.

GARBAGE SERVICE UPDATE – Waste Management, Inc. (WMI) will begin picking up trash from residential and commercial customers on Monday, February 22nd. WMI will be sending additional resources (i.e., equipment and personnel) in an effort to make up for the service days lost due to the inclement winter weather. The City’s garbage route and schedule will remain the same -> http://easyedit.ci.smithville.tx.us/filemanager/files/GARBAGE_Pick_Up_Schedule_DIAGRAM_UPDATED_MARCH_2021.pdf. The roll-out of the new 96-gallon carts has been postponed until further notice. Contact City Hall at (512) 237-3282 Monday-Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm to report service issues.

SMITHVILLE CITY PARKS – All City parks are OPEN. However, many water lines were damaged due to the extreme cold. As such, some of our parks do not have running water in the restrooms. We are doing our best to fix all of the broken water lines.

RECREATION CENTER CLOSED – The extreme winter weather caused a water line break inside the Rec Center that flooded the gymnasium floor and weight room. As such, the Rec Center will be CLOSED until further notice while repairs are being made. The After School Program will continue as scheduled.
