***** Information in regards to arson*****

On 07/27/26 at approximately 7:45pm SPD officers responded to a report of a fire in the alley at the 200 block of Bishop. Upon arrival a witness described the offender and after a search of the area a suspect was located and probable caused existed to arrest a 27 year old female for the offense of arson. Pursuant to questioning the arrested person it was concluded that she was responsible for several fires which had intentionally been started. Angelina Whitaker was transported to the Bastrop County Jail and charged with Arson.

I want to thank our friends in Smithville who help us during these times and provide valuable information to help us bring these cases to a conclusion. Also to the officers and the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department who respond and are focused on providing the law enforcement/public safety service we are honored to facilitate to the people of Smithville.

Good evening. The forecast for the Colorado River continues to be updated regarding the impacts of the Colorado River in Bastrop County as a result of the floodgate operations being conducted by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) and the City of Austin. At this time, the Colorado River in Bastrop and Smithville crested in both locations and the river level continues to recede. The Colorado River at Bastrop is no longer in Action Stage (which is defined as there being possible high water; local governments and NWS partners begin to monitor data and deploying resources to reduce potential danger to life, and property). The Colorado River at Smithville remains at Action Stage and the forecast predicts it will no longer be at Action Stage at approximately 3:00 AM tomorrow morning. The highest depth (stage) the Colorado River reached was 15.64 feet in Bastrop and 11.84 feet in Smithville. Since Bastrop and Smithville will no longer be at Action Stage at 9:00 AM tomorrow morning, this will be the final post unless the river forecast changes and there is a new forecast for the City of Bastrop or the City of Smithville reaching Action Stage. We will continue to monitor the Colorado River to ensure we can provide updated information if needed.

Flows downstream will be higher and faster than usual while the floodgates are open. People downstream should secure boats, docks and other property, and keep an eye on conditions.

As of this time, the Colorado River is forecast to crest in Bastrop at 14.90 feet Tuesday afternoon and in Smithville at 11.50 feet late Tuesday night / early Wednesday morning. The forecast is slightly higher than this morning’s forecast for both the Bastrop and Smithville locations.

Flows downstream will be higher and faster than usual while the floodgates are open. People downstream should secure boats, docks and other property, and keep an eye on conditions.

The forecast for the Colorado River continues to be updated regarding the impacts of the Colorado River in Bastrop County as a result of the floodgate operations being conducted by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) and the City of Austin. As of this time, the Colorado River is forecast to crest in Bastrop at 14.3 feet early Tuesday morning and in Smithville at 10.8 feet Tuesday morning. The Bastrop location forecast is slightly lower than last evening’s forecast and the Smithville location forecast is a little higher than last evening’s forecast.

Flows downstream will be higher and faster than usual while the floodgates are open. People downstream should secure boats, docks and other property, and keep an eye on conditions.

The information we provided early today regarding the impacts of the Colorado River in Bastrop County as a result of the floodgate operations being conducted by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) and the City of Austin has still not significantly changed.

Flows downstream will be higher and faster than usual while the floodgates are open. People downstream should secure boats, docks and other property, and keep an eye on conditions.
