🚫🪵🔥No wood fires allowed. Charcoal and containerized fueled fires are still allowed for cooking purposes only.

👀Ranger Robin found some cool critters hanging out in front of our HQ today.

🕷️ These yellow garden spiders are great natural pest control since they use their large and beautiful webs to catch flying insects like flies, mosquitoes, grasshoppers, moths, etc.
The larger one is the female and smaller one is the male.

🤔 Ever heard of a shaded fuel break?

🌲It’s a form of vegetation management used to reduce wildfire risks by selectively thinning out dense brush and smaller trees while retaining a healthy, mature tree canopy that provides shade to suppress new undergrowth.

🌳 Shaded fuel breaks are a preventative fire management tool that is highly effective by:

✅Removing ladder fuels such as brush and lower limbs of larger trees to prevent fires from climbing up to tree canopies.
✅Reducing fire intensity by lowering the radiant heat and rate of spread to make it easier for firefighters to contain.
✅Improve forest health by thinning out overgrown areas to reduce competition among surviving trees for water and nutrients.

Cleared firebreaks remove all vegetation entirely and can leave soil exposed while shaded fuel breaks maintain a natural, visually appealing environment.

🪚👩🏼‍🚒Over the next month or so at intermittent times, you might see Texas Forest Service crews out along the side of Park Road 1E conducting the thinning project.

🛑For your safety and the safety of the crew, sections of the park road will be closed while work is in progress.

🎣 It’s free fishing day in Texas! Which means no fishing license is needed to fish from any public shoreline today! 👮All other fishing regulations still apply today!

✅ Fishing regulations at Buescher and Bastrop State Parks are the following:
✔️Only two poles allowed in the water at a time per person.
✔️No other means besides poles are allowed to catch fish. That means no cast nets!
✔️Only five fish can be kept per person per day.
✔️Of those five fish, only one can be a bass and it must be above 14 inches in length.
✔️Insects, amphibians, etc. cannot be caught in the park to use as bait.

🐟If you didn’t know, you can also fish with out a fishing license in Texas State Parks or State Natural Areas year round! As long as you have paid your day pass entry to the park, that counts as your fishing license! You can be fined for fishing without out a day entry permit.

🌲Kids 12 and under are free at all Texas State Parks! Adults are $5 per person for entrance fees. Programs are completely free to attend after park entrance fees are paid.
