Did you know that 100% of those working inside the pantry week after week are volunteers? These people are so dedicated in helping us serve our community one shift at a time and we could not do what we do without any of them. We love all of our volunteers.
Today we had some hiccups to start our day but we got through them quickly thanks to the dedication of our volunteers and the patience of those that came out to see us. We saw a lot of new families come through and we welcome them all to our Homeplate family.
We had some downtime in-between shoppers so we took the opportunity to start packing bags for the Backpack Program which will kick off on June 1st at the Smithville park. The hours for the Backpack pick up is 10am-12pm on Mondays (beginning June 1st) and will always be held at the park to help keep things more orderly. If you signed your child up for the program you are welcome to come visit the pantry after picking up the bag for your child(ren).

We are getting several new followers very quickly so here's some answers to FAQ's.

1. Who can come to Operation Homeplate?
Answer: if you are a Wayne county resident, we are here to help. Please bring in a photo ID to register

2. How often can I come for food?
Answer: you may visit Operation Homeplate one time per week.

3. Where is the Pantry located?
Answer: the physical address of the building is 148 S Milton St in Smithville. We ask that you park on the backside of the building and use the door there. This can be accessed off of Mishler Drive. The red line on the map is to show where to park and enter our building. Parking against the building should be utilized first but we do understand that those spaces fill quickly when we are busy. IF YOU CAN SEE THE BASEBALL FIELDS YOU ARE ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE BUILDING (all caps for emphasis only).

4. Can I shop or am I just given a box/bag?
Answer: you are permitted to shop the pantry with a volunteer. Some things are harder for us to get access to so we will limit those items to ensure we have enough for all.

5. I don't have a need but I want to help. How can I do so?
Answer: If you want to donate time we do have a few slots available inside the pantry. We have other opportunities outside of the pantry working with seniors and vets that need extra hands. For those that need it we can sign off on JFS volunteer requirements. Please message us for more information.
If you are interested in making a monetary donation that we can use towards wishlist items, we offer several ways to do that and can offer a tax receipt upon request. Please either come in toward the end of pantry hours or message the page we can meet you at other times.
If you want to donate wishlist items that would be a huge help. Our wishlist is ever changing so please message us so we can give the most up to date list.
