Now in our second week of school, Amana West students are model citizen scholars in classroom, cafeteria, and safety drills settings; but let's rewind ⏪to see how we got here. After completing preplanning week, Amana's Crew LOVED 🥰 meeting returning and new families at Base Camp and Open House the week before! Drawing on our ELEducation school model, Base Camp (our version of new family orientation) promoted courage and adventure---parents 'circled-up' to get to know each and learn the same classroom protocols as their children were experiencing independently with teachers as a slice of life at Amana. WE can't wait to share photos😶‍🌫️...from the historic ribbon cutting 🎀ceremony.

Congratulations to our Kindergarten students for kicking off our Celebrations of Learning yesterday! They were confident and courageous as they showcased all they learned this semester about living and non-living things, as well as family and connection across different generations. We're so proud of all of their hard work this year, and can't wait to see what they accomplish next year in first grade!

Celebrations of learning are more than a display of student work and more than a party at the end of the year. The events encourage students to reflect on and share what they have learned, how they learned, questions they answered, research they conducted, and areas of strength and struggles. They are powerful opportunities to make learning public.

We escaped the island! A huge thank you to Ms. Guerra for planning a fun-filled culmination to our annual Amazing Race! And another big thank you to our parent volunteers and our staff crew members who helped to make sure it was a successful event for our students who either earned the prize for escaping the island or a movie and popcorn. Each weekly destination was an opportunity for students to practice grade level standards and we are proud of their hard work in preparation for end of year testing!

Lot's of outside time today! Students in Ms. Clonts' class are taking advantage of our new outdoor classroom, courtesy of The Home Depot and . And Ms. Garcia's class is loving this weather while having recess on the playground. We love our outdoor spaces!

Good morning, Amana West families:

This morning, Mar. 16, there will be a 2-hour delay. Students can start arriving at 9:30, and we will start the day at 9:50. Students arriving after 9:50 will need to be signed in by their parents and will be marked tardy. Breakfast will be served as usual, and we will follow our regular lunch schedule. Dismissal will begin 3:25 anx the afternoon, including bus routes and after care, will run as normal. For students who ride the bus in the morning, watch the bus Dojo group chat for specific route times or changes.

Stay safe, dress warm, and we look forward to welcoming you back this morning.

🙌🥳🎉🥳🙌 Congratulations to our students who participated in Cobb County’s ES and MS Reading Bowl and MS science fair. We're so proud of the way they upheld the habits of respect, responsibility, courage and perseverance as they represented Amana West in these challenging competitions! We look forward to seeing what great accomplishments they achieve in the future! 🙌🥳🎉🥳🙌

On Tuesday we celebrated the 20th Anniversary of Amana’s founding with people who have been a long-time part of our legacy - founding board members, founding parents, founding staff, community partners, alumni who started with us in our early years. We wanted to celebrate the pioneers who had a vision, a belief, that education could be something more. The evening was In honor of our Executive Director, Ehab Jaleel, who is also a founding parent and founding board member, for his dedication to stewarding the mission of Amana for 20 years. Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate our founders and to honor Mr. Jaleel - it was a special night!

Amana West will be open tomorrow, Monday, February 2, and operating on a regular schedule.

As a reminder, temperatures are expected to remain extremely cold throughout the week. Please be sure students come to school dressed warmly, including coats, hats, gloves, and other cold-weather gear as needed, especially for arrival, dismissal, and any outdoor transitions.
