Our 1st “feed the wolves” day for visitors was a huge success & lots of fun! While not every piece of meat made it over the fence on the 1st try, the wolves were patient & ended up with full bellies. Check out the tossing style of some of today’s participants.

New for our 20th anniversary:
HELP FEED OUR WOLVES & FOXES!
On select Sundays, visitors can purchase food on site to be fed to the animals during your visit! Purchase a $5 or $10 voucher at our admissions cabin and present it to the Animal Care Team during feeding times when you will be given a bucket of foods (usually raw meats) to be fed to the animals. $5 vouchers are good for tossing food over the fence into awaiting hungry mouths, while the $10 voucher allows you to enter a secured section (aka: wolves are locked elsewhere) of an enclosure with our staff to "hide" the food to encourage hunting/foraging for the animals. For feeding of wolves: participants must be at least 12 years old (tho any age may observe) and able to toss food over a 10 foot high fence. For feeding of foxes: participants must be at least 6 years old. Additional details/instructions will be given at time of purchase.
Limited vouchers available and are on first come/first served basis.
Feeding days in June: June 7 and June 21

Perfect weather for today’s celebration of birthdays for Dyani, Kitan, & the Arctic wolves. Our last birthday parties occur on Sunday, May 31 for all nine foxes & the coyotes (tho at 14, the yotties aren’t much for fun, but the foxes will definitely put on a show🤪)

We have already been receiving calls from folks about sudden sightings of fox mamas & kits “invading” yards. This response below is perfect advice:

It's denning season!! Between the end of March and early April, a mother fox will give birth to between 4 and 5 kits. Please do not hurt them! They've temporarily moved to the neighborhood as a way to keep "safe.”

If you have suddenly seen a fox in the yard near your home, there is a good reason for this. Predators finding a fox den, will dig out the babies, and kill them. A mother fox knows this and will frequently choose a den site close to people, away from where predators generally go.

A fox will often den under a porch, shed, garage, barn, or side of a hill, trying to keep her little family safe. Please offer them a short-term rental because this is not a permanent situation.

If you are lucky enough to see how beautiful an adult fox is, or witness the kits playing (at a distance of course), you will be glad you did!

It is not uncommon for Red Foxes to change dens several times during the season, so you may not see them for long. Kits are slow to develop and will not leave the den until they are about a month old. Foxes do not live in a den year-round, only when a mother has babies. During the summer as the kits grow older, you will see less and less of them, and by September everyone will have packed up and moved on. Please do not call a service to “relocate them”, they will often be killed.

If you see a fox during the day, it does not mean she is rabid. A mother fox works tirelessly to feed her kits and will often be out during daylight hours foraging for food.
Foxes are omnivores, generally feeding on berries, grasses, and small rodents. They are solitary and prefer to be left alone.

They do not want to hunt and eat your children, mate with your dog, or kill your cat.
( Fox will invade chicken coops, as this is a food source for them. Please insure you predator proof your coops. )

A fox just wants a place to raise her family safely, please allow her to do that ❤️.

May Animals of the Month: Denahi, Kenai, & Sitka!
May is a busy time for farmers who are out prepping fields for the spring planting. As plows dig up the soil, burrows and nests of small rodents and rabbits are disturbed, causing them to become more active and more visible. A watchful coyote will easily be able to score a meal from the fields during this planting season. Our coyotes turned 15 this spring and are still as spunky as ever! Sponsor our coyotes at this link: https://www.thewolfmountainnaturecenter.org/donatesponsor.html
During the month of May, sponsorships for the coyotes score you a discount: you save $5 off each sponsorship!
