🚨🚨🚨 DCA Emergency Housing Voucher Program to End June 30, 2026
Atlanta, GA. (January 16, 2026) – The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) announced today that the Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) program will end on June 30, 2026. Emergency Housing Vouchers are special vouchers established under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 and funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). DCA is one of more than 600 Public Housing Authorities across the nation that administer the EHV program.
HUD announced the final funding allocation for the EHV program in March 2025. DCA’s allocation funds Housing Assistance Payments (HAPs) for EHV though June 30, 2026. However, effective July 1, 2026, HAPs will stop, and the HAP contract between the landlord and DCA will terminate. Any ongoing relationship between the landlord and tenant (i.e. lease or tenancy agreement) will not involve DCA.
The Emergency Housing Voucher program is the only program impacted. DCA’s regular Housing Choice Voucher program and other special voucher programs are not affected by these changes.
🚨 What This Means for Participants
• The Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) program will end June 30, 2026.
• After July 1, 2026, DCA will stop paying rent (Housing Assistance Payments).
• The contract between DCA and the landlord will end.
• If tenants remain in the unit, the lease becomes a private agreement between the tenant and landlord unless another housing program is secured.
• Regular Section 8 / Housing Choice Vouchers are NOT affected.
📌 Participants should immediately: • Contact their housing case worker.
• Ask if they can transfer to a regular Housing Choice Voucher waiting list.
• Begin looking for alternative housing or assistance programs now.
