2018 Halloween Display

Check out video of this year's Halloween display courtesy of Timothy Kirk. This year, we had four animatronics, "firing" cannons, our twinkling treasure chest, and many more goodies. Despite the light rain and midweek holiday, we entertained hundreds of trick-or-treaters from around the community.

Oh My Disney

Happy 50th anniversary to the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction!

Yo ho, yo ho! It's the anniversary of Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland! ☠️

Some interesting trivia about the Pirates of the Caribbean Disneyland attraction:
-POTC was originally conceived as a walk-through attraction.
-One working name for the attraction in the early stages was "Pirates of the Spanish Main."
-The only scene in POTC that was created as full mock-up was the auction scene.
-Two 21-degree drops were required at the beginning of the ride to take guests underground and into the main show building located beyond the berm of the park.
-The "Take a W***h for a Bride" sign was created to justify the auctioning of women in the auction scene.
-Actual skeletons were used in the original grotto scenes because Imagineers were not satisfied with the quality of the faux skeletons. These were later replaced with plastic "bucky" skeletons.
-The "firewater" liquid "pouring" down the throat of the skeleton in the bar scene was achieved using a twisting piece of plastic.
-The portrait of the redheaded woman is a portrait of the redheaded woman being auctioned later in the ride after she has acclimated to a lifestyle with pirates many years later.
-The painting protruding from the sack of treasure along the upramp is a reproduction of Peter Ustinov as Edward "Blackbeard" Teach in the Disney film Blackbeard's Ghost.
-It was the last attraction personally overseen by Walt Disney.
-The fire effects in the Burning Town scene were so realistic that prior to the attraction’s grand opening, the Anaheim Fire Chief asked that the effects automatically shut off in the event of a real fire.

If you thought you saw a hearse parked next to the yard display, you're not dreaming. That's the new Haunted Nightmare at the Nile vehicle. In between days of setting up the yard display that benefits Seattle Children's Hospital, I do make-up for and help run a haunted house that benefits the Nile Shriners. Come check out Haunted Nightmare this weekend for a scary time, and don't forget the Nile Family Fun day on Sunday, October 30 from 3 to 5 PM.

Getting closer to putting everything out, one day at a time.
