Service Center Closure Notice

The Front Door Service Center will be temporarily closed on Thursday, July 17, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. while our team participates in a Community Navigation Meeting.

We will reopen and resume regular services at 2:00 p.m.

We are following the recent news about the restructuring of KCRHA and the changes to how homelessness services will be funded and managed across the region. As an organization funded through KCRHA, we understand this transition raises real questions for providers, partners, and the people who count on us every day.

Our focus remains grounded in keeping shelter, meals, case management, and housing-focused support moving without interruption for the people we serve.

We appreciate the commitment of King County leaders to work closely with nonprofit providers throughout this transition, and we will keep asking the practical questions needed to protect services for the people who rely on Reclaim.

rentCRISIS:

Around 60% to 70% of American renters live paycheck to paycheck. More than 20% of this group spend their entire paycheck on rent.

Brandi is 35 years old and married. She has two children - a three year old son who lives with her and a fourteen year old daughter who lives with her ex-husband. Brandi and her son have been living in their current apartment for just over two years, currently alone. Her husband is in jail.

Brandi’s housing is through the King County Housing Authority, which charges 30% of her income for rent. She receives $800 a month through TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) and also receives food stamps on her EBT card.

There is a tidal wave of families, many of which are single moms, on the brink of losing their housing. How is this happening? How did it happen for Brandi?

Brandi was born in Montana. Early on the family moved to Wyoming, and then, at age 7, her parents moved the family to Seattle to get away from the drugs. They were both using and wanted to make a clean start.

It worked for a while.

Brandi was a cheerleader in Middle School. In the 9th grade she dropped out. When asked why, she shares, “When we moved from Kent to Maple Valley, the new school had a junior high, which meant I would no longer be in high school. It felt like I was going backwards. It was a hit. School was already difficult for me. I had a hard time focusing in a big setting, so I dropped out.”

When Brandi’s mom was diagnosed with MS everything fell apart. Her mom spiraled back into drugs. Last year she died of an overdose. Brandi was lost.

Brandi's car was recently impounded twice for a total of $1,150.00. Both impounds were the result of a family member borrowing her car, once her father and the other her sister. She is $439.00 behind and set to receive a pay or vacate notice.
