Our thoughts and prayer are with ALL his FAMILY.

Our beloved firefighter, son, and brother, Andrew Brokes, will be put to rest this upcoming weekend at his hometown in Burlington, NC.

The family will be holding a visitation on Friday, October 16 beginning at 4PM at the Lamb’s Chapel. The funeral service will be held the following day at 4PM.

The public is welcome to join as we remember the life of one of Durham’s Bravest.

Emergency services agencies will conduct a training exercise behind Snow Camp Mart, at the intersection of W. Greensboro Chapel Hill Road and Snow Camp Road, this Saturday the 10th in the morning.
Snow Camp Mart will remain open. You may see emergency vehicles and personnel in the area as they participate in this planned exercise.
Please use caution when traveling through the area and keep access clear for emergency vehicles.

We are heartbroken to share that Firefighter Andrew Brokes died in the line of duty this morning while searching for victims inside the building at 410 Marly Drive.

Firefighter Brokes, who joined the Durham Fire Department on May 5, 2025, served the Durham community with dedication, courage, and a deep commitment to the residents of the Bull City.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for our department, the family, and the entire community,” said Durham Fire Chief Robert J. Zoldos II. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones and his colleagues, and we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during this unimaginably difficult time. The department is standing with and supporting his family in every possible way.”

Two other firefighters were injured during the incident and were taken to Duke Medical Center. Both have received care and are expected to make full recoveries.

This loss is felt across our entire department. Firefighters step into unpredictable situations every day in service to others, and Firefighter Brokes embodied that calling with honor.

We know our community is grieving alongside us. If you wish to share your condolences or messages of support, they will be received with gratitude by our department and by those who knew and loved Firefighter Brokes.

In the coming days, we will share more information about how we will honor his service and support the firefighters involved in this incident.

This was some great training for us. Thanks for all who come out.

Earlier tonight Alamance County Emergency Management alongside Snow Camp Volunteer Fire Department,Eli Whitney Volunteer Fire Department,E. M. Holt Fire Department #9, Alamance County Sheriff's Office, Kimesville Fire Department, Silk Hope Fire Department, Liberty Fire Department, and Greensboro Fire Hazardous Materials Response Team participated in a multi agency hazardous material tabletop exercise. This exercise tested operational coordination, communication, and ICS functions. Exercises like this are critical for agencies to build stronger relationships prior to an emergency. Thank you to Crisis Training Exercise & Consulting for leading the exercise tonight!

Please use extreme caution in the area of S NC 87 and Bayfield Road.

Several emergency service vehicles and personnel are currently operating in the area due to an incident involving a large commercial structure.

🚒 Please slow down and move over for emergency vehicles and personnel.
🚧 Expect increased emergency traffic and possible delays in the area.
⚠️ Please avoid the area if possible and allow responders the room they need to work safely.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as emergency crews work on scene.

Increased Risk of Wildfire Due to Elevated Fire Danger -- Thursday, June 18, 2026

The National Weather Service has issued fire danger statements for central and eastern North Carolina. What does increased fire danger mean for you today?

🎯 Fires can start from the smallest spark.
🎯 Dry conditions and wind increase fire spread.
🎯 Everyday activities carry more risk right now.

Avoid burning, and be cautious with anything that could cause a spark. Properly dispose of smoking materials such as ci******es. Be extremely careful with machinery and farm equipment when working outdoors.
