We can hardly believe it, either... but it's back-to-school season! 🍎
This year, don't just focus on getting the right school supplies.

Take time to connect with your teen, too. Be sure to discuss your expectations for the year, what their after-school plans look like, and who they'll be spending time with after the bell rings.

Sometimes the best way to prepare for a new school year starts with a conversation.💬

If you live in an area that's frequently at risk for hurricanes, take a moment to refresh your home disaster supply kit. Your kit should include necessities your household may need in case of emergency, including enough food and water to last several days and first aid supplies.

Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal illness caused by a parasite. Learn about its symptoms and how to prevent it. For details, visit the CDC at https://www.cdc.gov/cyclosporiasis/prevention/index.html

🥬 NCDHHS continues to investigate the increase in cyclosporiasis cases across North Carolina alongside the NC Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services and local partners.

While the source has not yet been confirmed, parsley, cilantro and lettuce are among the foods most commonly reported by people who became sick. These ingredients have not been confirmed as the source but remain part of the ongoing investigation.

To help reduce your risk:
✔️ Wash your hands before preparing food.
✔️ Rinse fresh fruits and vegetables under running water.
✔️ Consider fully cooking parsley, cilantro and lettuce if using them in meals until more is known.
✔️ If you have severe or ongoing diarrhea, contact your health care provider.

NCDHHS will continue providing updates as the investigation progresses.
