Greene County offices, Trash Convenience Sites, and the Landfill will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2026, in observance of Memorial Day. Regular operations will resume on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. We encourage all residents to plan accordingly and wish everyone a safe and reflective holiday. Thank you for your cooperation.

On Monday May 11th, Samantha Gay was awarded the Governor’s Medallion Award for Volunteer Service at the State Capitol Building.

Samantha Gay: A STATE MEDALLION RECIPIENT, Samantha was nominated by Derek Burress, Teresa Burress, and Jessica Anderson in the following service areas: Individual, Youth Service, Environment, and Lifetime Achievement for her nonprofit, Fishers of Kids Anglers Academy, established in 2016 to provide free fishing education, outdoor experiences, and life-skills mentoring to at-risk and underserved youth across eastern North Carolina. What began as a personal passion for bass fishing has grown, through thousands of unpaid volunteer hours, into one of the region’s most effective youth-development programs. Samantha was selected to receive the Governor's Medallion Award for Volunteer Service, implemented in 2006 to recognize the top 20-25 volunteers in the state. Samantha received her medallion on Monday May 11th at a special ceremony at the State Capitol with Governor Josh Stein in attendance.

Greene County is soliciting sealed proposals from qualified residential developers for the purchase and development of County-owned property located on Capital Drive in Walstonburg, NC.

The County seeks a developer to design and construct a high-quality, cohesive single-family residential neighborhood. Proposers are encouraged to submit innovative development concepts and site layouts that maximize the potential of the property while meeting the minimum requirements outlined in the Request For Proposals. The site is served by existing public water and sewer infrastructure.
