It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of former Castoria Volunteer Fire Department Chief, Steve Marshburn.

Steve dedicated his time and service to our department and community, leaving behind a legacy that will not be forgotten.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him during this difficult time. To his family, we are praying for comfort and strength in the days ahead. May you always hold on to the memories you shared with Steve. 🤍🙏🏼

📚🎒 Happy Back to School from Castoria Volunteer Fire Department! 🚒🔥

As students and staff head back for another school year, we want to wish everyone a safe, successful, and wonderful year!

A few reminders from us here at the fire department:

🚌 Traffic & Bus Safety
• Slow down and stop when a school bus has its stop sign and lights activated.
• Watch carefully for children getting on and off the bus.
• Never pass a stopped school bus.
• Stay alert in school zones and watch for children crossing.
• Follow school traffic patterns and posted signs.
• Avoid distractions while driving.

🏫 School & Home Fire Safety
• Know your school and home emergency exits.
• Keep hallways, doorways, and exits clear.
• Make sure smoke alarms are working at home.
• Have a family fire escape plan and practice it.

Water Shuttle Training 🚒💦

Tonight, we had the opportunity to host Water Shuttle Training with several of our neighboring fire departments. We’re proud to work alongside Maury Vol. Fire Department, Snow Hill Vol. Fire Department, Fort Run Fire Department, and Walstonburg Fire Department to strengthen our skills, communication, and teamwork.

🚒 On July 18th, Castoria Volunteer Fire Department responded to a two vehicle motor vehicle collision involving one entrapped patient. Our crews worked quickly to safely open the vehicle door and assist with patient access. Both patients were transported by EMS with unknown injuries.

We would like to thank Greene County Emergency Services, Snow Hill Rural Fire Department Inc., and the North Carolina Highway Patrol for their assistance and teamwork on this incident. We are grateful for the continued partnership between our emergency response agencies as we work together to serve our community.

🚨🚒 At approximately 1:30 AM July 1st, Castoria Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a passenger car and a tractor trailer. One patient was transported by Greene County EMS with unknown injuries. Units remained on scene until the incident was turned over to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
