This week, we recognize Mr. Alligood, GCMS Art Teacher. Whether it’s the quiet presence he has throughout the building or his positive teamwork approach to school, Mr. Alligood is always there. His creative ideas and lessons make Art fun for students and intriguing for staff. He has showcased his and his students’ talents throughout the building by painting the mural in the cafeteria and displaying student work throughout. No matter the job, Mr. Alligood approaches it with a positive attitude and a team-focused mentality, making him truly RAMTASTIC!

Mrs. Brennan’s 6th graders hosted New York Times Best Selling author Tom Rogers today over zoom during their class. Mrs. Brennan said, “Mr. Rogers spoke to us about how he became an author, the process of writing, and about what he was like when he was 11.” The students then had a question/answer and discussion time where they asked questions about certain scenes in the book, about the symbolism he used and about the writing process. The class read the book Eleven about a boy turning 11 on September 11, 2001 . Mr. Rogers is an award-winning author who is currently a screenwriter for Disney. His work includes The Lion King 1 1/2, Kronk’s New Groove, LEGO: The Adventures of Clutch Powers, and Disney’s Secret of the Wings. Some of the quotes the class captured today are: “How we respond in difficult times shows who we are as people.” “When we read a book, it is not a passive activity- we are imagining the story and characters in our own minds.” “In my current work, we are reminded to be silly, have fun, and tell stories with good messages for kids.” The students give the book AND Tom Rogers a 10 out of 10! Thank you, Tom Rogers, for writing such a wonderful book and for visiting Green County Middle School today!

End of Grade Testing will begin next week with Early Testing Sessions (May 19th-21) for select 6th and 8th Grade students with learning plans.

Regular Administration of the EOGs will begin on May 22nd with the 8th-grade Science Test, 6-8th Grade ELA on May 27th, and will finish on May 28th with 6-8th grade Math.

Congratulations to the GCMS soccer team! They came back from being down 2-0 to tie it up and win in penalty kicks to become conference champions!!

Congratulations to 7th grader Deonia Williams for creating the front cover of the yearbook through our cover competition. She received a free personalized yearbook as her prize.
