Field Trip Friday

Today, our on-duty crew had the opportunity to assist Nature’s Mountain Classroom with their 3rd-grade students. Our crew talked with the students about what we do here at Shavers Fork Fire Rescue and the important role emergency services play in our community.

The students then got hands-on experience by creating their very own first aid kits, and our crew showed them how to properly bandage a wound using the supplies in their kits.

It was a fun and educational experience for everyone involved, and we enjoyed helping these young students learn valuable first aid skills. Thank you to Nature’s Mountain Classroom for having us!

Last weekend, FF/Medic H. Crist, FF C. Kelly, FF J. Rexrode, and EVO C. Chamberlain attended a female fire camp hosted by the WILD Institute in Minden, WV. The weekend focused on fire ground operations, including ladder throws, advancing hose, drags and rescues, and forcible entry. We are grateful for the opportunity to send members to this training. Today Shavers Fork had the immense privilege of welcoming some extraordinary young visitors. The ambitious girls from Girl Scout troop 10521, accompanied by their siblings, came for a tour of the firehouse, discovering the remarkable world of firefighting and all its intricacies.

We feel deeply honored to have hosted these talented young ladies and we fervently hope that their curiosity continues to flourish, inspiring them to tirelessly pursue their aspirations.

As an added bonus, some of our members were treated to a delightful surprise - their Girl Scout cookie cravings were satisfied.

✨Back to the Basics✨

Today we took advantage of the beautiful weather and welcomed spring with some pump operations and ladder operations. The crews today worked on relay pumping and basic hydrant usage.

Training allows our firefighters to stay up to date and comfortable with basic operations that are essential when seconds matter. Training for low frequency, high acuity events helps to breed an environment where firefighters can operate safely and efficiently.
