As we continue sharing the stories of the people and organizations that help make Snyder such a special place to call home, we're proud to highlight another community leader making a lasting impact. Every town has its treasures. In Snyder, some of the most important ones are right in our own backyard. People who pour their heart into our community, schools that strengthen our neighborhoods, and initiatives that make our city shine.
This week, we continue our series by sharing the story of Dr. Jessica Gore, Superintendent of Snyder Independent School District, who brought her passion for school improvement and her family's desire for small-town roots straight to Snyder and hasn't looked back since.
When Dr. Gore was working as an executive director of school improvement in a large West Texas district, she had built an impressive career. But she and her husband wanted something different. They wanted to be home with their children. They wanted community. They wanted the kind of place where one stop sign separates you from work and the commute is three minutes.
Snyder was that place.
She came not just for the lifestyle, but for the challenge. Her entire professional background had been built around turnaround schools, campuses where the work is hard, the need is real, and the impact is lasting. Snyder ISD was exactly that kind of opportunity.
As she puts it: "Our job is to make sure you're ready for those next 40 or 50 years of life because of what you experienced when you were in Snyder ISD."
That kind of thinking doesn't come from a checklist. It comes from someone who chose this work, and chose this town, on purpose.
Since joining Snyder ISD, Dr. Gore has led a meaningful shift in how the district thinks about its students' futures. That mindset is now written into Snyder ISD's three-year strategic plan, with measurable goals, quarterly metrics, and a clear commitment to college, career, and military readiness that goes beyond checking a box.
To bring that vision to life, Dr. Gore knows the school cannot do it alone. She needs partners who know the local landscape, who are hiring, what skills employers are looking for, and which industries are growing. That is exactly where DCOS comes in.
For years, DCOS has worked to build the bridge between Snyder's classrooms and its workforce. From serving on the Snyder High School CTE Advisory Committee and Co-hosting the manufacturing pathway’s welding program build-off, and supporting the internships program through the DECA organization, DCOS has shown up consistently as a partner invested in what happens after graduation day.
That history matters. And with new leadership at Snyder ISD that is eager to collaborate, the opportunity to build something even stronger is here.
Join us later this week as we share more about what Snyder ISD is building for its students and why the partnership between our schools, our businesses, and DCOS is key to keeping Snyder's brightest right here at home.
