You can make a REEL impact by participating in National Fishing and Boating Week (June 6-14, 2026)! 🎣🚤

Whether you are introducing a child to their first fishing trip, spending time with friends and family, or simply enjoying a quiet morning on the water, fishing and boating create lasting memories while supporting conservation through outdoor recreation.

Ways to celebrate:

✅ Fish for Free: On June 6 and June 13, Georgia residents can fish public waters without a fishing license, trout license, or Lands Pass.

📍 Attend a Fishing Event: Family Fishing Events and other educational opportunities will take place across the state during the celebration.

Searching for the perfect spot? Visit one of Georgia's Public Fishing Areas or explore fishing opportunities at Georgia State Parks. https://georgiawildlife.com/fishing/angler-resources

Learn a new skill at a Georgia DNR shooting range near you. 🎯

Shooting sports is one of the fastest growing activities in the nation. Safety comes first as you learn how to handle a firearm on a staffed range or at a nearby property with responsible friends and family. Challenge yourself to hit the target on a DNR range near you.

Try target shooting this summer. Find a range near you at https://georgiawildlife.com/AllRanges.

🐳 We have whale-y good news! 🐳

19 of this season’s North Atlantic right whale calves have safely completed the annual journey to the Northeast US and Canada with their moms. That’s a long way from Georgia - good job, moms! 🎊🙌

Did you know... 🔎
23 North Atlantic right whale calves were documented by teams in the Southeast this calving season? 👶

That is the highest count since 2009 and the fourth highest since 1990! 🚨📣

Every year, Georgia DNR works with partners to monitor these endangered whales. Many thanks to our teammates (Clearwater Marine Aquarium Research Institute, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and Marineland Right Whale Project) and supporters (NOAA Fisheries and the US Army Corps of Engineers, Coast Guard and Navy) for making this work possible. 🌊

🦃 Have you seen any wild turkeys lately? Let us know! 🦃

From June through August, we are conducting our annual Turkey Poult Survey to help monitor wild turkey reproduction across the state.

If you spot turkeys while you're out and about, we'd love to hear about it. You can report sightings of both hens (with or without poults) and gobblers. If you don't see any turkeys during the month, that information can be valuable too!

Help us out and submit your observations here 🔗https://arcg.is/u99eb

Georgia DNR needs your input! 🗣️

Georgia’s Protected Species List identifies native animal and plant species considered most in need of conservation, and Georgia DNR is now proposing the first updates to the list since 2006.

These updates will include adding and removing species, changing scientific names, and aligning species statuses with federal listings.

Have a species in mind that you think we should add? Public nominations will be accepted June 1–30. 📅

Information and details on how to nominate a species can be found at 🔗 https://georgiawildlife.com/ProtectedSpeciesList

🎶What music would Georgia Wildlife listen to? 🎶

We made a few "scientific" guesses and some of them make a little too much sense.

Tell us which species/music combo we missed!

⏰ You know what time it is! ⏰

This morning’s mystery has been solved. If you guessed a wood duck duckling, you were right on the money! 🦆👏

Did you know... 🤔

👀 The wood duck is the most common duck species found in Georgia
✌️ It is one of two duck species that nest in Georgia (black-bellied whistling ducks being the other)
🪹 The wood duck is one of only a few waterfowl species of that nest in a cavity rather than on the ground

Thanks for playing along and stay tuned for more guessing games. 💭
