Mayor Peter Micciche continues to be highly engaged here and in Juneau on the proposed LNG project, including negotiations of the tax structure to ensure that Kenai Peninsula taxpayers benefit from the project. It’s important that citizens here are not forced into partially covering costs to the KPB of this global LNG project for decades. He believes we have reached a balance that is good for residents and the project alike.

The Mayor has also been continuously meeting with individuals and PacRim delegations interested in the project. Over the past couple of weeks, Mayor Peter Micciche shared a history of Oil and Gas and LNG on the Kenai Peninsula with approximately 70 LNG customer delegates, contractors, investment firms and others attending a meeting at the Kenai Visitor Center on May 18.

Mayor Micciche also regularly meets with key LNG project-related leaders including CEO and Founder of Glenfarne, Brendan Duval, as well as the leader of a Japanese delegation, Kamikawa Yoko, a member of the Japanese House of Representatives and the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

Mayor Micciche is recognized as a global expert and leader in Oil & Gas and specifically LNG projects, which makes him uniquely qualified to protect the KPB’s interest as an AKLNG partner while this major project develops in our community.
