Hello SVSP Families,

We’d like your input on how to best use the SB 542 funds. SB 542 provides designated funding to improve conditions and enhance programming in visiting areas within correctional facilities. Because these spaces are meant to support meaningful family connections, we are seeking your feedback to ensure the improvements reflect the needs and experiences of visiting families.

These funds will support improvements in the Family Visiting Units, Visiting Room, and facility yard areas.

Below is a list of proposed options. We strongly encourage you to share your suggestions for additions or replacements. If you have an idea that isn’t listed, please submit it. Every suggestion is welcome!

While SVSP may not be able to fulfill every request, we will do our best to make meaningful improvements with the funds available.

Thank you for your input and support!

Salinas Valley State Prison (SVSP) at Soledad recently recognized 15 incarcerated students who completed the Correctional Construction Mentorship (CCM) program. This workforce development initiative is administered by CDCR’s Facility Planning, Construction and Management (FPCM).

The graduates were honored for successfully completing the Multi-Craft Core Curriculum Pre-Apprenticeship Program. This nationally recognized training prepares participants for careers in the construction trades.

Update from SIFC Chair: Securus Tablet Movement Between Facilities

For those who have been asking whether an incarcerated person should be able to transfer to another facility with their Securus tablet, below is the guidance we received from Headquarters.

Current Guidance:

At this time, Securus tablets should only transfer with the incarcerated person (IP) in the following situations:

• From SCC to a camp or from a camp back to SCC.

• Between CIW, CCWF, and the female camps.

Once the statewide transition is complete, Securus tablets will transfer with all incarcerated persons moving between institutions and camps.

Headquarters is continuing to work with institutions to ensure these procedures are applied consistently. They have also had to correct several instances where tablets were transferred when they should not have been.

We hope this helps clarify the current process. If Headquarters issues any updates or changes to this guidance, we will be sure to share them.

Thank you

Update from CDCR HQ: Tablet Suspensions & Disciplinary Records

If a tablet suspension occurs, staff will document it with a case note. However, this case note is not formal disciplinary action and does not go on the individual’s disciplinary record.

The case note is for staff reference only, it helps them track history and decide on appropriate next steps if additional violations happen. If further incidents occur, staff can then determine whether progressive discipline (like a CDC 128 or CDC 115) is warranted.

In short: A tablet suspension alone does not appear on someone’s disciplinary record and does not affect their BPH. It simply creates a reference point for staff if a pattern develops.

We’ll continue to keep you updated as we get more clarity on how these regulations are being applied. As always, reach out if you have questions or are seeing something different in practice.
