Quick updates on hail storm aftermath:

1. The City has set up a website to report all damage to houses and personal property efficiently (instead of 500+ emails to the Fire Chief). If you have already reported by emailing the Fire Chief, no need to submit a form online. The Fire Department will receive an email with each submission. Link is attached.

2. The Community Center pool remains closed. The power outage caused damage to the electrical system, primarily affecting the aquatic area pumps, motors, and related equipment. The Rec. Department is working with Public Works and City electricians to get to the bottom of it and reopen the pool.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns, and I will do my best to help you.

As you know, today’s severe storm caused damage to personal property throughout the Ward and City. I hope your property was not seriously damaged but more importantly I hope you and your family are safe. A few notes and updates:

• Please report any damage of your house or property to the Fire Chief by emailing [email protected]. The Chief asks that you include your name, address, phone number, and the type of damage sustained. This information will help our safety forces identify the areas that have been impacted the most. Reporting may also help your insurance claim.

UPDATE: Please report damage at the below link instead of emailing for greater efficiency and response. An email will be sent to the Fire Department with each submission.

• The City has been in contact with Cuyahoga Emergency Management to report damage within the City and assist in the damage assessment process.

• If you are still without power, it is extremely important that you report the outage to First Energy, even if someone has already reported it. First Energy will prioritize restoration service to the areas with the most reports. Report the outage by texting "OUT" to 544487 (LIGHTS), calling 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877), or on the First Energy website.

Once you have reported by texting, you can get updates on restoration, including estimated restoration time, by texting “STAT.”

🚧🚨 Construction Alert:

The Service Department will be starting an excavation today and continuing Saturday for a fiber optic conduit replacement on SOM. This is in the area by the rail bridge, just north of Dunkin Donuts up to Bainbridge Road.

The right northbound lane will be closed during work times. The sidewalk will be closed in the area until the project is complete.

This construction is to restore internet connection at the community center. The entire work is anticipated to be completed by the end of next week.

Last night, Council approved Mayoral and Council appointments to the Charter Review Committee. The Charter Review Committee meets every five years to review the City’s Charter and recommend any updates to Council. The committee will present its recommended changes to Council, where Council will determine whether to accept or deny them. Any accepted changes will then be placed on the November ballot for citywide voter approval.

I am very happy to announce Beth Teitler Kalinowski as the Ward 4 representative to the committee. Beth is a 20-year resident of Solon. After growing up in Buffalo and attending the University of Buffalo, she moved to Cleveland to attend Case Western Reserve University School of Law where she earned a Juris Doctorate. Beth worked briefly in advertising after graduating from Case Western and then for KeyBank in the Trusts and Estates department, followed by a position in Commercial Real Estate and in a Management training program. Beth and her husband, Jeff, moved to Solon in 2005. After their daughter, Sarah, was born she chose to stay home and dedicate her time to volunteering and raising her daughter. Beth held numerous board positions with the Solon schools, including recording secretary for both Parkside Elementary and Orchard Middle School and corresponding secretary for the Solon Council of PTAs. She also headed and worked on a number of committees for the Solon schools.

With her depth of knowledge, experience, and dedication, I know Beth will do an outstanding job on this very important committee. Thanks to Beth for serving!
