From Renaissance dance steps to family feuds, Solon High School ninth graders are stepping into the world of Shakespeare’s "Romeo and Juliet" this week.

Actor-teachers from the Great Lakes Theater are leading interactive workshops that help students explore the play’s enduring themes of love, loyalty and fate. Through script work, theater exercises, props and costumes, students are analyzing Shakespeare’s text while imagining the social world of 15th-century Verona from the perspectives of commoners, merchants and wealthy landowners.

During a recent session, students learned a Renaissance period dance before acting out a dramatic confrontation between the Montagues and Capulets.

With swords, daggers and more dramatic scenes ahead, students are getting an immersive and unforgettable look at one of Shakespeare’s most famous works.

Lewis Elementary second graders had a wild time learning with the Akron ZooMobile today.

As part of their science unit on how animals change their environment and interact with living and nonliving things, students met three special visitors: Daisy, a Brazilian three-banded armadillo; Little One, an Indian star tortoise; and Louis, a prehensile-tailed skink.

Students loved seeing the animals up close, learning how each one survives in its habitat and asking questions about their unique adaptations.

Both Solon Science Olympiad teams finish in the top 6 at nationals!

What does it look like when a school district builds a true culture of excellence in STEM? This weekend, it looked like two Solon teams on a national stage at the University of Southern California — both finishing in the top 6 in the country. 🥈🏆

Solon Middle School earned 2nd place at the 2026 Science Olympiad National Tournament. Solon High School finished 6th. 120 teams. 23 events. Countless hours of preparation.

Science Olympiad challenges students in everything from experimental design to coding to anatomy — and it takes genuine mastery to compete at this level. To have two Solon teams among the nation’s best is a testament to our students, coaches and the community that supports them throughout the entire competition season.

Proud doesn’t begin to cover it. 🎉

Families brought blankets and lawn chairs to the playground blacktop for an open-air story time, where students shared their favorite books with their VIPs.

Thank you to all the VIPs who helped make the day so special!
