MISSION STATEMENT

The members of the Somers Point Police Department dedicate ourselves to ensuring the public health, safety and welfare and to continually strive to improve the quality of life within our community. We will always perform in the public interest and endeavor to meet their expectations by not tolerating or accepting anything short of hard, aggressive polic

e work. They want well trained, educated and unbiased police officers on the street who are as aggressive as the law allows, caring, courteous and friendly. They want strong supervisors and strong leaders to keep the separation between civilization and anarchy. To accept less from our members is to invite turbulent times ahead. It is of paramount importance that we secure the confidence, respect and cooperation of the public. The police profession must embody the highest attributes of every other profession. Not private profit, nor personal reward, but the service of the community is the earmark of the professional police officer. As we move forward we are reminded of the words of Theodore Roosevelt. 'This country will not be a good place for any of us to live in , unless we make it a good place for all of us to live in" Lest we never forget that the success of the Somers Point Police Department in the performance of its duties is largely measured by the degree of support and cooperation it receives from the people which it serves. National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week 2026

This week, we recognize the men and women behind the phones— our dispatchers.

They are the first first responders, answering every call for help, gathering critical information, and guiding police, fire and EMS when it matters most.

Their calm voice in chaos makes all the difference.

Thank you for everything you do.

We’re proud to have Ptl. Fredrick at our PD!

MEET ...... Patrolman Rocco Fredrick, Somers Point Police Department, 8 years

After spending his first three years in law enforcement in Ocean City, Patrolman Rocco Fredrick eventually joined the police department in a town he also calls home: Somers Point. In the eight years since, he points to community engagement as his favorite part of the job.

“Whether it’s Bayfest or the Good Old Days Festival, with the music, food, and familiar faces, I enjoy being with my community,” Rocco explains. “And I also love National Night Out, when so many families come out with their children.”

For a job that can often be challenging, children provide some of the best moments. Rocco describes receiving thank-you notes from the kids at Dawes Avenue school, with personal drawings of the police officers and a snack. As for the more challenging moments, they can also be the most memorable.

“There was one evening we received a call about a man found slumped over in his car at a restaurant parking lot where he’d just had dinner,” Rocco recalls. “When we got there, he had no pulse, and he wasn’t breathing.”

Within seconds, Rocco responded, connecting the man to an AED and saving his life. “It happened quickly, and bringing him back—it just seemed inconceivable,” Rocco explains.

Rocco Fredrick was honored with Life Saving Commendations by Chief Somers, an accolade that not only recognized his heroic efforts, but the work of a public servant fulfilling his purpose.
