We’re proud to have Ptl. Fredrick at our PD!
MEET ...... Patrolman Rocco Fredrick, Somers Point Police Department, 8 years
After spending his first three years in law enforcement in Ocean City, Patrolman Rocco Fredrick eventually joined the police department in a town he also calls home: Somers Point. In the eight years since, he points to community engagement as his favorite part of the job.
“Whether it’s Bayfest or the Good Old Days Festival, with the music, food, and familiar faces, I enjoy being with my community,” Rocco explains. “And I also love National Night Out, when so many families come out with their children.”
For a job that can often be challenging, children provide some of the best moments. Rocco describes receiving thank-you notes from the kids at Dawes Avenue school, with personal drawings of the police officers and a snack. As for the more challenging moments, they can also be the most memorable.
“There was one evening we received a call about a man found slumped over in his car at a restaurant parking lot where he’d just had dinner,” Rocco recalls. “When we got there, he had no pulse, and he wasn’t breathing.”
Within seconds, Rocco responded, connecting the man to an AED and saving his life. “It happened quickly, and bringing him back—it just seemed inconceivable,” Rocco explains.
Rocco Fredrick was honored with Life Saving Commendations by Chief Somers, an accolade that not only recognized his heroic efforts, but the work of a public servant fulfilling his purpose.
