The Somers Department of Veterans Affairs will host its upcoming Veterans Coffeehouse on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the Somers Town Hall Auditorium, located at 600 Main Street.

This community-focused event invites veterans and guests to gather for coffee, conversation, and camaraderie in a welcoming environment. Free refreshments will be provided, and all veterans are encouraged to attend and bring a guest.

The Coffeehouse will feature a special presentation on trauma and post-traumatic stress by Jim Caldwell, a U.S. Army Veteran who served two tours in Vietnam. Mr. Caldwell is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with extensive experience working with veterans and individuals affected by trauma.

His professional background includes service as a Team Leader at a VA Vet Center, work in higher education as an Assistant Professor of Computer Science, and decades of experience as a trainer, curriculum developer, and mental health professional. He specializes in PTSD treatment and has worked with individuals, couples, and groups.

Mr. Caldwell’s presentation will last approximately one hour and will be followed by a question-and-answer session, offering attendees the opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue about trauma, recovery, and available support resources.

This event also coincides with National Vietnam War Veterans Day (March 29), providing a timely opportunity to recognize and honor the service and sacrifice of Vietnam-era veterans.

2026 New Year’s Message
As we welcome 2026, the Somers Department of Veterans Affairs extends our deepest gratitude to the veterans and military families of our community. Your service -- past and present --represents sacrifice, resilience, and a commitment to something greater than oneself. We honor not only what you did in uniform, but the strength you continue to show every day.

We also want to thank the Somers community, local businesses, and sponsors who sponsored wreaths for the 2025 Wreaths Across America ceremony. Your generosity made the event deeply meaningful and truly successful, bringing comfort, remembrance, and honor to so many.

In the year ahead, as dedicated veteran volunteers, we remain committed to standing with you: advocating, assisting, listening, and ensuring that no veteran in Somers feels unseen or unsupported. May 2026 bring you health, stability, connection, and moments of well earned peace.

With respect and appreciation,

🎄 From the Somers Department of Veterans Affairs 🎄

As we celebrate this holiday season, let us pause to honor the brave men and women who have worn the uniform of our nation. Their sacrifices -- seen and unseen -- have given us the gift of freedom, often at the cost of time away from family, friends, and the warmth of home.

This season, many service members and veterans will spend the holidays alone, far from loved ones. Let’s change that. If you know a veteran or military family, reach out. Invite them to share a meal, a celebration, or simply a moment of connection. A small gesture can light up a lonely holiday and remind them they are never forgotten.

To all who serve, have served, and the families who stand beside them: we thank you, we honor you, and we hold you in our hearts.

From our Somers community to yours—Happy Holidays and a heartfelt wish for peace, love, and togetherness.
