Our community is coming together to support a local family who recently lost their home in a fire.
A Meal Train has been created to help ease some of the day-to-day stress during this incredibly difficult time. If you are able, please consider signing up to provide a meal or support in another way.

On May 21, 2026, the Mitchell Family (Trenton, Shawna, and Theodore) experienced a devastating house fire. Somers Human Services is pleased to partner with the Congregational Church of Somersville to help us help our neighbors in need! Our neighbors at 29 Maple Street, Somersville, lost everything but the clothes on their backs in a house fire during the very early morning of Thursday, May 21st. We are collecting gift cards to retailers that can help the family fill a home with the essential items.

Gift cards to Amazon, Walmart, Kohls, Target, eBay, and the like work well. Drop off the cards to the church at 22 Maple Street on Tuesday, May 26th through Friday, May 29th from 8 a.m. to noon. Alternately, starting Tuesday, May 26, donations may be dropped off or mailed to Somers Human Services, 619 Main Street. The office will be closed for the Monday holiday, but will resume regular business hours on Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Donations will be accepted through June 4th. Thank you for your generosity, in all of its many forms.
