On Saturday May 30, 2026, Flash Fire Industries came in to conduct a class on fire behavior, flashovers, thermal imaging, and water extinguisher operations. This training gave our personnel experience of recognizing rapid fire progression, thermal imaging, utilizing water extinguishers for situations where you may not have a hose line, and feeling high levels of heat beyond what we can simulate in our own training facility. Thank you to the instructors for putting on this extremely valuable training!

🚑 EMS Week: May 17-23, 2026 🚑

This week, we proudly recognize National EMS Week 2026 and the dedicated EMS professionals who answer the call every day. This year’s theme, “Improving Outcomes, Together,” highlights the teamwork and collaboration that make emergency medical services possible. EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, dispatchers, police officers, nurses, emergency department staff, physicians, and many other healthcare and public safety professionals work together every day to provide the highest level of patient care.

The Somers Fire Department would like to thank all of our EMRs, EMTs, Advanced EMTs, and Paramedics for their commitment, professionalism, and compassion shown to our community day in and day out. Whether responding in the middle of the night, providing critical care during emergencies, or simply offering reassurance during difficult moments, your work makes a difference.

We also extend our appreciation to all of our mutual aid partners and EMS providers everywhere who stand ready to help whenever needed. The EMS system is built on teamwork, and we are grateful for the strong partnerships that help keep our communities safe.

To all EMS professionals:
Thanks you for your service, sacrifice, and dedication during EMS Week and every week.

Over the past few weeks, Somers Fire Department personnel have been participating in a UTV Operations Course through the Eastern Connecticut Fire School. The training has focused on safe operation, vehicle capabilities, and terrain navigation of our new UTV 346 in a variety of emergency situations.

This hands-on training helps ensure our members are fully prepared to safely and effectively utilize this new resource when it enters service. We look forward to placing UTV 346 in service soon to better serve the residents and visitors of Somers.

Thank you to the instructors at the Eastern Connecticut Fire School and to all of our members who have dedicated their time to the training program.
