Somers Democrats (NY) The Somers Democratic Club promotes Democratic candidates & increases public awareness of issues Its job is more social and civic minded.

This is the official page for the The Somers Democratic Club, a social club that promotes Democratic candidates for political office, offers scholarships, dinners, increases public awareness of key policy issues that impact on their lives. The Club is independent and autonomous from the Somers Democratic Town Committee, although those two bodies work synergistically together to raise the Democrati

This is stated in the Club’s constitution so that there can be no split in the Somers Democratic Party. Since 1988, the mission of the Somers Democratic Club has been to encourage Democratic participation in the civic affairs in Somers, to support Democratic values and to nurture social interaction among Somers Democrats. For example, the Club sponsors five annual scholarships. The award is based on community involvement and scholarship, and not on partisan bases. The Club sponsors public issues forums. The Club hosts a June awards dinner honoring outstanding Democrats and gives a non-partisan Community Appreciation Award to a deserving person or organization. The Club sponsors town and civic organizations events. The Club distributes via e-mail the SDC News Flash to registered Democrats in Somers.

Please share widely. Families are already feeling the pain of the Big Ugly Bill.
It’s only the beginning of the suffering this will cause.

Hospitals are at risk of closing. People who are disabled may get thrown off Medicaid because of the reporting of “work” requirements. Lawler did this.

"We have a responsibility to care for our most vulnerable neighbors, especially children with complex medical needs and seniors who require long-term care."

A message from State Senator Peter Harckham:

Budget

“After two months of tough negotiations, we passed a State Budget that invests in New Yorkers.

Yes, the 2026-2027 State Budget includes crucial initiatives that the Senate Majority fought like hell for.

Because residents need help with the ongoing affordability crisis and increased funding for
schools, road repairs and environmental protections to keep taxes down.

Some of these hard-fought-for wins in the State Budget include:

● POWER Energy rebates ranging from $100-200 to offset high utility rates
● Fully funding Universal Pre-K outside of New York City by 2028 and increased reimbursement for Universal Pre-K in SD40
● A $50 million (7.7%) increase from last year for Consolidated Local Highway
Improvement Programs (CHIPS) to fix our roadways—the second year in a row that there has been a $50 million increase.

In terms of protecting the environment and supporting clean energy initiatives that will save
money for utility ratepayers, the State Budget featured:

● A $250 million increase in Clean Water funding to a record level of $750 million
● $1 billion in Sustainable Futures funding for clean energy projects
● $200 million for NY-Sun in the Accelerate Solar for Affordable Power Act to spur solar
development and save ratepayers on utility bills

Let’s keep our Senate Majority this continue advancing important investment priorities and protections in this budget
