Thank you Assemblyman Matt Slater for always advocating for our roads! Wish he had more help up in Albany when it comes to this fight!

Fielded a ton of calls today about Route 138. Our Supervisor was able to convince the State DOT to come out and patch them, so big thanks to him. A few new monster have opened up on 202 near Lake Road. Please be very careful!

This is going to be an ongoing problem over the next few weeks on all roads as we thaw out, but particularly on the poorly maintained State Roads (100, 35, 118, 202, 116, 139, 138, 6). We will stay on the State DOT, but please let your officials in Albany know that it’s not only ridiculous, BUT COMPLETELY UNSAFE FOR OUR RESIDENTS! Region 8 roads (us) are the most poorly graded roads in the entire State! It’s time for our Governor and Albany to do what’s right when it comes to our infrastructure!

Good morning guys. Rough night. Fixing to be an even rougher day. We’ve received quite a bit of heavy wet snow overnight. Even the State roads and our main roads are in poor condition as it continues to come down at over an inch an hour. Looks like it will snow into this afternoon. We will most likely be working well into tonight /Tuesday morning to get all of our roads opened up. This storm is going to take a few days to clean up completely. We have dispatched heavy equipment into the lake communities and continue to stay on our routes. Please stay off the roads and have some patience. Thank you and stay safe.

Good Afternoon Tuskers. I’m sure you’re sick of hearing from us at this point. We went to bed Friday thinking we were gonna get away with one this weekend. Woke up Saturday morning in a prison shower with Mother Nature standing right behind us. Them’s the breaks.

Anyhoo, looks like another decent sized storm. State and County have declared a state of emergency as well as a travel ban. Someone asked me how a travel ban is enforced earlier…basically if you are out driving around you will be pulled over and your vehicle will be towed to impound town. Them’s also the breaks unfortunately. Please stay off the roads.

School has been cancelled for tomorrow, so plan accordingly. Worst part of the storm appears to be over night into tomorrow AM. Hopefully over by mid afternoon. We’ve pretreated all our roads and will be on them until it’s over. Our chainsaws have all been sharpened and fueled up should they be needed. Hopfully they get to stay inside the trucks.

Call us if you need us.

XOXOXOXOXO,

Somers Highway

Good morning folks! This winter seems to be a giver. A very generous lover if you will. Couple inches over night…main roads are in pretty good shape. We’re working on the back roads, but everything is currently passable. Temperature not on our side so the salt isn’t working as well as we’d like, but we’ll be on ‘em until the job is done. Please drive safely this morning and use caution! With wind chills this low we may get some icy spots. Stay safe Somers!

This morning the great folks at SVFD reported a water main break on Miller Avenue. Our water department responded and was able to repair the line and restore service to those affected. Really nice job by multiple Town agencies working together effectively and quickly (pretty cold outside too). Great work. Lucky to have this in our Town.
