🌟 Night Out 2026 🌟

What a great night for community, connection, and crime prevention!

The Somerset County District Attorney’s Office was proud to join our community for National Night Out, a family-friendly celebration that brings neighbors and law enforcement together to strengthen relationships and promote safer communities.

From meeting families and sharing important safety resources to handing out goodies—including plenty of freeze pops! We loved being part of an evening focused on crime prevention, community engagement, and keeping Somerset County a great place to live.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, said hello, and helped make the evening such a success! We’re grateful for the opportunity to work alongside our community—not just in protecting it, but in building connections that help make it stronger. 💙

Greg Mostoller sentenced to life in prison.

On May 15, 2026, after a five day trial Gregory John Mostoller was convicted by a jury of
the 1st degree murder of Clifton Earl Johnson.

Today, Mr. Mostoller was sentenced to life in prison for that murder. Mr. Mostoller
received the sentence he deserved.

Mr. Mostoller’s conviction and sentence are the most “justice” that the criminal court
system can provide, but I know that provides slight comfort for the victim’s family and
friends. I hope that closure of this chapter of the criminal prosecution will help those who
loved Cliff move forward, with fond memories of Cliff, towards peace. True justice for Cliff
will only be found in the hearts of those who knew him.

I want to thank the lead investigator, Trooper Daniel Kephart of the Pennsylvania State
Police, for his years of diligent investigation. His contribution, the contributions of many
participating professionals of the Pennsylvania State Police, and the cooperation of many
citizen-witnesses made this successful prosecution possible.

As the District Attorney, I am proud of the combined trial preparation efforts of my staff
and particularly of the trial assistance of Assistant District Attorney Aaron Ling. Team
work was essential in this case. As always, our team will continue to work tirelessly to
make Somerset County a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.

Bradley Kenneth Lavan sentenced for Child Sexual Abuse crimes

Today, Bradley Kenneth Lavan was sentenced to 60 to 120 years in state prison for
committing unthinkable s*xual acts against five precious children, an appropriate
sentence given the seriousness of the crimes. Mr. Lavan was also found to be a s*xually
violent predator, which will require him to register as a s*x offender for the rest of his life
and attend mandatory counseling. The sentence should assure that Mr. Lavan is never
able to prey on innocent children again. Today, justice
was served.

This outcome was made possible by the courage of the child victims who bravely reported
and testified about the abuse, and by their families who supported the victims throughout
the prosecution. We pray for the continued healing of the children and their families.

I extend my deepest gratitude to now-retired Somerset Borough Police Detectives Ruth
Beckner and Angelo Cancelliere for their thorough investigation, to former District
Attorney Molly Metzgar for her steadfastness in confronting every obstacle presented in
the preparation of this case, and to Trial Deputy District Attorney Christina DeMarco-
Breeden for her tireless dedication in prosecuting this case.

This successful prosecution and sentence are the result of the District Attorney’s Office’s
commitment to seeking justice for victims and for protecting the children of Somerset
County. We will continue to work tirelessly to make Somerset County a safe place to live,
work, and raise a family.
