Edwin Stanton Porter Somerset PA History Did you know... that one of the earliest film makers is right here in Somerset PA? Is that a coincidence or what?

So, although he and Caroline spent most of their time working in New York, imagine their respites and vacation time spent in this house in Somerset. Now, President McKinley's brother, Abner, lived just up the street, and Edwin had filmed the President. In fact, President McKinley was the very first President of whom we have a moving picture. The beautiful old McKinley house has been razed years ago, but this one remains.

This is the house built by Edwin S Porter in Somerset, PA about 1922. Once in a nice residential section, a block from the mansion of Abner McKinley (known as the "Summer Whitehouse" because his brother, the President visited there so often) it is now swallowed up by more commercial buildings. This sweet walk back in time may soon be just another parking lot.
