We recently participated in a teacher appreciation event hosted by Bexar County Pct. 1 in conjunction with the ESD5 Professional Firefighter Association. This event provided a significant opportunity to recognize the hard work of our educators and contribute to the local community. We are grateful for the invitation to serve alongside these professional organizations.

Below are grilling tips to keep you, your family, and your neighbors safe:
🔥 Only use grills outdoors, away from siding and deck railings
🔥 Clean grills often and remove grease or fat build-up
🔥 Make sure your gas grill lid is open before lighting
🔥 Have a 3-foot safe zone around grills and campfires. Keep kids and pets away from the area
🔥 Dispose of coals after they have cooled in a metal can
🔥 Never leave grills, fire pits, and patio torches unattended

Flooding update: 7/16/2026 0900
We are actually monitoring the flooding situation in the Hill Country. At this time, NO water crossings are closed in our area. All ESD5 trucks are staffed and equipped with water-rescue equipment, if needed.

🌡️ How to stay cool during dangerous heat 🌡️

We in Bexar County are in the midst of our summer months, and heat advisories are common but important nonetheless. Here are some Tips to stay safe during these advisories.

How to stay safe:
→ Stay indoors with AC running and shades drawn. Limit stove and oven use — they add heat to your home.
→ If you must go outside, drink plenty of water and take breaks, even if you feel fine.
→ Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles. LOOK before you LOCK.
→ Bring pets inside and make sure they have access to plenty of fresh water.

Bexar County ESD 5 Board of Commissioners has appointed Javier Esparza as Interim Fire Chief, effective Thursday, 6/25/2026. This appointment ensures uninterrupted fire and emergency services while the ESD refines its process for selecting a permanent Fire Chief.
