🚁 Landing Zone Training at Eubank Fire Department! 🚒

Last week, we had the pleasure of teaching a Landing Zone (LZ) class at Eubank Fire Department!

LZ training is an important part of keeping both flight crews and ground crews safe when operating around an aircraft. A safe and well-prepared landing zone starts with good communication and an understanding of what the flight crew needs from the ground team.

Some of the key takeaways from an LZ class include:
• Proper LZ size and site selection
• Identifying obstacles and hazards
• Understanding wind direction and conditions
• How to communicate with the aircraft and flight crew

We recommend that every department host an LZ class at least once a year to stay current on the safest practices when operating around an aircraft.

A huge thank you to Eubank Fire Department for hosting us and for making safety a priority in our community!

⛈️ With severe weather moving through our area today, we wanted to share an important reminder about how weather impacts air medical transport.

A request for helicopter transport may be turned down for weather even if the sky looks clear where you are. Our pilots evaluate conditions along the entire route—including at the base, sending facility, receiving hospital, and everything in between.

⚡ As a general safety practice, we avoid flying within 20 miles of lightning. Our crews continuously monitor radar, forecasts, and changing conditions to make the safest decision possible.

If our helicopter is unable to take a flight due to weather, that doesn’t always mean all other transport options are exhausted. Our team evaluates all available resources, including fixed-wing aircraft when appropriate, to help get patients to the right level of care, at the right time, and in the right setting.

✅ When in doubt, call us anyway. Even if you are unsure whether weather conditions will allow us to fly, let our pilots assess the situation and make the determination. We are available 24/7 to provide weather updates, discuss transport options, and support our EMS and hospital partners.

Crew and patient safety will always be our highest priority.

The newest Air Methods base in Kentucky has been flying patients for two months now and was recently able to find time to officially celebrate the opening of the base with a ribbon cutting. Russell County showed up to help the Air Methods KY Russell Springs crew officially cut the ribbon, and couldn't be happier with the community support they receive day in and day out. Thank you to all that came out to help them mark the momentous occasion! 🚁 ✂️

🎉 Celebrating 22 Years with Air Methods! 🚁

Help us celebrate a huge milestone for Tom Watters— 22 years with Air Methods!

For more than two decades, Tom has dedicated his time, experience, and expertise to serving patients and supporting his fellow crew members. Twenty-two years represents countless missions, thousands of miles flown, and an incredible commitment to our patients and communities.

We are incredibly grateful for everything Tom brings to the KY3 team and for the years of service he has given to Air Methods. His dedication is a great example of what it means to be part of this team.

Congratulations on 22 years, Tom! Here’s to many more! 👏🎉🚁

Teamwork makes the dream work! 🚁

Here at KY3, we work together. Our pilots are always willing to lend a helping hand when they can, just as our med crew helps the pilots out when we can. Whether it’s refueling the aircraft, getting equipment ready, or preparing for our next patient, everyone plays a part in keeping the mission moving.

Working together helps missions run smoothly when every second matters. It’s a true team effort from the moment we get the call until we’re back on the ground — and we wouldn’t have it any other way!

We were honored to join our partners at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for KY15 and celebrate the addition of this vital air medical resource to the community.

Congratulations to the entire KY15 team! We look forward to working alongside you as we continue our shared mission of serving our communities with safe, compassionate, and exceptional care. Welcome to the Air Methods family! 🚁💙

Yesterday, our KY3 crew was honored to participate alongside Pulaski County Schools and our local public safety partners in a full-scale active shooter and mass casualty training exercise ahead of the new school year.

These scenarios are difficult to imagine, but realistic training is one of the most important ways we prepare for the unthinkable. Exercises like this strengthen communication, coordination, and teamwork between law enforcement, fire, EMS, emergency management, school personnel, and air medical crews—so that if a real emergency ever occurs, we are ready to provide the best possible care.

We are grateful to Pulaski County Schools for their commitment to student and staff safety, as well as to every agency that dedicated their time and expertise to making this exercise a success. Preparing together today helps protect our community tomorrow. 🚁🚑🚒👮‍♂️

✈️ Check out KY3 coming in to land behind FIFI!

FIFI is one of the most famous flying B-29 Superfortresses in the world. This historic aircraft has appeared in numerous television and movie productions and has traveled the country since the 1970s, honoring veterans and giving the public a chance to experience a true piece of World War II aviation history.

It’s not every day you get to share the ramp with a piece of aviation history like this! 🇺🇸

🚁 Huge thank you to Rockcastle Regional Hospital for having us at their annual Kids Summer Fair!

We always enjoy opportunities to share what we do and let the community get an up-close look at our aircraft.

The fun was cut a little short when the tones dropped and we had to respond to a call—but that’s all part of the job! We were grateful for the chance to visit before heading out to provide critical care when it was needed most.
