TEECS Student Council Receives NJASC Standards of Excellence Award

Thomas Edison EnergySmart Charter School is proud to announce that the TEECS Student Council has received the New Jersey Association of Student Councils (NJASC) Standards of Excellence Award at the annual NJASC Spring Awards Program, held on June 1, 2026, at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey.

The Standards of Excellence Award is one of the most prestigious honors presented by NJASC. Initiated by the New Jersey Association of Student Councils and the New Jersey State Board of Education, this award recognizes student councils that demonstrate outstanding organization, effective administration, meaningful student leadership, and strong school-wide engagement.

This recognition is especially meaningful because schools are eligible to receive the award only once every five years. The selection process includes a rigorous self-evaluation of the Student Council’s activities, administrative procedures, and overall effectiveness. Participating councils are also evaluated by a peer review team from another school, and final award recipients are selected after review by the NJASC State Officers.

TEECS Student Council’s selection reflects the dedication, leadership, and hard work of its Executive Student Council members, as well as the support of the school administration, advisors, staff, and student body. Through their commitment to service, leadership, and school spirit, TEECS Student Council has continued to make a positive impact on the school community.

“We are extremely proud of our Student Council for earning this special recognition,” said the school administration. “This award reflects the students’ dedication, responsibility, and commitment to making TEECS a stronger and more engaged school community.”

TEECS is honored to bring this award to the school community and looks forward to celebrating this important milestone with students, staff, families, and supporters.

Our First Graders proudly presented their Social Studies projects today during Career Fair Day! Students chose a career that interested them or one they hope to pursue when they grow up. They researched their chosen profession and brought their learning to life by dressing up and presenting their final projects.

Families were invited to attend, and students in grades K–2 had the opportunity to visit and learn from the presentations. Our First Graders truly enjoyed sharing what they learned and showing off their creativity and hard work. It was an exciting and inspiring day for everyone involved!

As final exams conclude on June 4th, students will finally have a chance to relax, celebrate, and enjoy a well-deserved break from academics. To mark the occasion, the TEECS Science National Honor Society has partnered with the Franklin Township Astronomy Club to host an exciting Star Party — a special astronomy night for students in grades 7–12.

This unique event will take place at the John Clyde Grassland Memorial, one of the darkest and best stargazing locations in Franklin Township. All participants will have the opportunity to explore the night sky through a state-of-the-art high-powered telescope and experience the beauty of astronomy in a tranquil outdoor setting.

Please register for this FREE event through Community Pass. First-come, first-served due to limited parking spots.

Additional details can be found on the attached flyer. We hope you’ll join us on the evening of Friday, June 5th for an unforgettable night under the stars that includes a free ice cream bar! Students in attendance will receive a free dress-down on Monday, June 8th.

If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Jignasha Patel at [email protected].
