Congratulations once again to the 2026 Joe Danielsen Community Service Scholarship recipient, Abigail Balda, a remarkable member of the Franklin High School Class of 2026, whose leadership, academic excellence, and dedication to service have made a lasting impact throughout her community.

During her time at Franklin High School, she has served as Student Government Vice President, Student Conductor of the Madrigal Singers (Gold N’ Blues), Community Service Coordinator, and Vice President of the Honor Society, Marching Band Colorguard Captain, Winterguard Captain, and Concert Choir Honors Class Co-President. Her accomplishments also include recognition as a College Board National Hispanic Recognition Program Awardee, a College Board AP Scholar Awardee, an AP Ambassador Awardee, and a Girl Scout Bronze Award recipient.

This fall, she will attend Rutgers University, where she plans to study Psychology and Cognitive Science.

Service has been a defining part of her journey. Through nearly a decade of involvement with Girl Scout Troop 63200, she has dedicated countless hours to supporting others through community initiatives, including assisting at the Franklin Food Bank, helping families at the Ronald McDonald House, preparing meals for homebound seniors through Meals on Wheels, and honoring veterans at local senior living communities. Her commitment to giving back reflects a deep understanding of the importance of serving and strengthening the community around her.

During her visit to my office, she learned more about the many ways we serve our residents, and saw firsthand how local government supports the community every day.

We are proud to recognize her achievements and wish her continued success as she begins this exciting next chapter at Rutgers University.

Today, we celebrate the end of slavery in the United States and remember those who died from enslavement as well as those who fought to end it. We must always be vigilant against racism and bigotry today and every day. Let’s celebrate equality for all and the end of oppression in our country.

I was playing ball with a stray dog (which we adopted) when the ball was thrown up on the roof. Three teacher crying on the ground. I just wanted the ball back to continue playing with the stray dog.
