Your path doesn’t have to stay the same just because people are comfortable with the version of you they once knew. Growth means evolving, learning, healing, and becoming someone even stronger than before.

Today we remember the heroes who gave their lives in service to our nation. ❤️🤍💙

We also recognize that holidays like today can bring up grief, reflection, and difficult emotions for many individuals and families. If you or someone you love is struggling, know that support is available and you do not have to navigate it alone.

From all of us at Avalon, we thank those who served and remember those we’ve lost. Wishing our community a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month a time to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and remind others that support is always available. 💚

Mental Health Awareness Month has been observed since 1949, and for more than 20 years, SAMHSA has joined this important effort by sharing resources, encouraging conversations, and supporting individuals and communities across the country. Mental health is an essential part of overall well-being, and no one should have to face challenges alone.

This month, we encourage everyone to:
✨ Check in on yourself and your loved ones
✨ Prioritize self-care and emotional wellness
✨ Reach out for support when needed
✨ Help create a community where mental health conversations are welcomed without judgment

Together, we can continue building awareness, compassion, and hope.

Tonight from 5:30pm-7:30pm at Firebrook Community Park!

Last year on May 16th, our community along with communities in Laurel and Russell Counties suffered through a devastating tornado. After the storm, and when everyone realized the full loss of lives and property, people were nervous about more storms, children were scared of lightning and thunder, and all of us were worried about what to do if we ever had to go through another disaster of that caliber.

A couple of weeks after the storms passed, the Somerset Junior Woman's Club invited mental health agencies, various family resources, and businesses to be part of "Healing Minds, Hearts, & Hands." We offered those in attendance free inflatables and games for the kids, a time for art, LOTS of free food and drinks, prizes, cotton candy, books, and assistance from experts in the field of mental health. It gave us and all who attended a chance to breathe, relax, and forget our troubles for just a couple of hours...AND...it helped many children be able to talk about their fears and worries.

One year later, we see still the scars of the tornado on our physical property and on our people. But now, we are also worrying more about higher food and gas prices, safety in crowds, wars, diseases, AND additional catastrophic natural disasters. Just like in 2025, we ALL need a break! We need peace of mind, relaxation, play time, comraderie, and maybe just a few minutes to talk about our feelings. That's why we are hosting our 2nd Annual "Healing Minds, Hearts, & Hands" event on May 14th from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Firebrook Park.

--Please plan to join us! It is FREE and ALL AGES are invited!
--If you have a mental health agency, community resources to share, or a business wishing to help sponsor the event or provide prizes, food, books, or general necessities, please let us know! You can comment here OR email us at [email protected].

💙 Everyone deserves support, guidance, and access to the resources they need to thrive.

Targeted Case Management helps individuals and families connect with important services like healthcare, housing assistance, counseling, education, community programs, and more. It’s about making sure no one has to navigate difficult situations alone.

Whether someone is facing mental health challenges, developmental disabilities, chronic illness, or other life obstacles, case management provides advocacy, coordination, and personalized support every step of the way.

Sometimes the biggest difference comes from simply having someone in your corner. 💫

Happy Friday, everyone! 🌿✨

As we head into the weekend, here’s your reminder:
You do not have to earn rest.
You do not have to be “caught up” to take a break.
And you are allowed to slow down without feeling guilty.

This weekend, try to do at least one thing that brings you peace:
☀️ Get outside
📖 Read a few pages of a book
🎶 Listen to music you love
💬 Spend time with someone supportive
💤 Take the nap

Small moments of care matter more than you think. 💚

Wishing you a restful, safe, and joy-filled weekend from all of us at Avalon!!
