Reminder Notice of Labor Day Holiday Trash and Recycling Schedule – One Day Delay


Labor Day is on Monday, September 7th. Trash and Recycling collection services will be delayed one day.


Please follow the schedule below:

Monday, September 7: No collection
Monday’s collection: Tuesday, September 8
Tuesday’s collection: Wednesday, September 9
Wednesday’s collection: Thursday, September 10

♻Metal Pick-up ♻



The Department of Public Works reminds residents that metal pick up occurs on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. The September collection will occur on Tuesday, September 8 and residents wanting this service are asked to call Public Works no later than 3:00 pm on Friday, September 4th to be placed on the pickup schedule for September. Participants are reminded to place the proper number of tags on the item when setting the item out on the street for collection. Residents may also opt to drop off metal and electronic items with proper bulky waste stickers at the Public Works Facility located at 18 Lilac Lane from 7:30am-2:30pm Monday–Friday.

Join us on Wednesday, September 16, from 6:00–7:00 PM at Idlehurst School for the first in a series of community forums exploring The Future of Somersworth Schools. Everyone is welcome, and no RSVP is needed. Childcare and light refreshments will be provided.

Additional forums are planned for September 23 and October 7.

🚓🐾Somersworth Police Comfort Dog Program 🐾🚓

The City of Somersworth has accepted a generous donation from the Police Association to support the Police Department’s Comfort Dog Program. Through the generosity of local businesses, community members, and supporters, the Association secured donations for a Labrador Retriever, training classes, equipment and supplies, dog food, annual wellness exams, rabies vaccinations, and discounted emergency veterinary care.

These donations will help reduce costs to the City while providing an additional resource to support the Police Department and the Somersworth community. We thank the Somersworth Police Association and all of the donors who helped make this program possible.

♻Food Composting Drop Off Program ♻

Did you know food composting is available for Somersworth residents at the Public Works facility? The City of Somersworth has partnered with Mr. Fox Composting to provide residents with a no-cost, composting option to divert waste and tonnage from the solid waste stream that gets landfilled. The program allows residents to bring their eligible food scrapes to a special Recycling Toter located near the cardboard recycling containers; Mr. Fox Composting will be removing the food scrapes on a weekly basis.

Bulky Waste and Freon Stickers are available for purchase (CHECKS ONLY) at the DPW facility, Bulky Waste stickers are $4.00/per sticker, Freon stickers are $10.00/per sticker.

🗳Primary Election Reminder: Ward 5 Voting Location 🗳

The Ward 5 polling location for the September 8th State Primary Election will be the Charpentier Apartments Community Room, 28 Franklin Street. The new location was selected to provide a better voting experience for residents by offering improved parking availability, enhanced pedestrian safety, better lighting, and increased accessibility for voters with mobility impairments.

It is with profound regret and sadness that the City announces the passing of Captain Anthony DeFrancesco of the Somersworth Police Department following a brief illness.

Captain DeFrancesco’s contributions to law enforcement, and to the Somersworth Police Department in particular, were numerous. His genuine concern for others, compassion, and dedication to serving the community touched many lives. His loss will be deeply felt by his colleagues, friends, family, and the entire Somersworth community.

The City looks forward to celebrating Captain DeFrancesco’s life and honoring his service and lasting impact when the time is appropriate.

At this time, we ask the community for understanding as Captain DeFrancesco’s family and the Somersworth Police Department grieve this tremendous loss. We also ask for the community’s patience and respect as they take the time they need to mourn and support one another.
