It is with profound regret and sadness that the City announces the passing of Captain Anthony DeFrancesco of the Somersworth Police Department following a courageous battle with cancer.

Captain DeFrancesco’s contributions to law enforcement, and to the Somersworth Police Department in particular, were numerous. His genuine concern for others, compassion, and dedication to serving the community touched many lives. His loss will be deeply felt by his colleagues, friends, family, and the entire Somersworth community.

The City looks forward to celebrating Captain DeFrancesco’s life and honoring his service and lasting impact when the time is appropriate.

At this time, we ask the community for understanding as Captain DeFrancesco’s family and the Somersworth Police Department grieve this tremendous loss. We also ask for the community’s patience and respect as they take the time they need to mourn and support one another.

The Somersworth Police Department is proud to cheer on Officer Gibson as he takes the field in the 2026 New Hampshire Special Olympics Hero Cup Baseball Game!

This event brings together law enforcement officers and Special Olympics athletes for a day of teamwork, sportsmanship, and community—all while raising awareness and support for Special Olympics New Hampshire.

Every swing, every catch, and every cheer helps support incredible athletes and the life-changing opportunities Special Olympics provides throughout the state.
