We’ve settled into our new Summer Street Engagement Center, and thanks to a very special neighbor, it’s truly starting to feel like home. We’re moved to share that our longtime supporter and local artist, Farah Hussain, has loaned us her breathtaking oil paintings. We are so proud to display her work in our new space!

But let’s read about it in the artist's own words!

“Farah Hussain is an oil painter, leadership advisor, and executive coach based in Somerville. She is also a longtime donor to the Somerville Homeless Coalition. Farah brings the value of "oneness" to her work, which she defines as the interconnectedness of all things. The paintings here were all painted with a palette knife while observing live models who live in the Greater Boston area. You can see more of her art on Instagram at .”

Congratulations to btone FITNESS of Somerville on hitting their 6-month anniversary! They celebrated by giving!

Kara, Billy and the entire btone FITNESS team in East Somerville hosted donation-based classes that had the whole studio buzzing with energy and community spirit! All to ensure our neighbors have a place to turn to for safety, warmth, and support. And wow, did they show up! 🙌

We’re beyond grateful to have partners like btone FITNESS for choosing to mark their milestone with generosity. Thank you to your instructors for leading with heart and to your guests who showed up to give it their all for themselves and for our neighbors. You make our community stronger, thank you for being here!

Today is National Nonprofit Day and this is what it’s all about. 💙🍲

Sharing her time, kitchen, and a hot meal, Bala showed up with heart (and her family!) to ensure our neighbors were well fed today. This is her third time cooking for our guests this year, and she’s already committed to coming back for more.

National Nonprofit Day honors the impact of organizations like ours. Generosity like Bala’s reminds us that we’re only as strong as the people who feed the mission with their hands, hearts, and willingness to show up!

Last Monday, our food pantry Project SOUP had some extra help! The rain couldn't hold back the tenacious Cambridge Savings Bank team! While the skies opened up, the CSB crew rolled up their sleeves to unload the towering pallets we received from The Greater Boston Food Bank, stocked shelf-stable-staples like cereal, beans, pasta & rice and packed our walk-in fridge with fresh fruit and veggies!

And when the Food Rescue US truck pulled up with a donation CSB made short work of unloading that truck too, tucking away the prepared foods safely into refrigeration before our pantry opened!

We’re honored by the ongoing support that CSB has offered over the years; from the CSB Street Team volunteering at our events, to providing financial workshops for our clients, and the very generous contributions supporting the work we do to support our most vulnerable neighbors. In addition to the above, Cambridge Savings Bank shares their Vice President, Kevin Chaves, to serve on SHC’s Board of Directors, reflecting the genuine connection to the values we share.

Monday is always a busy day and we’re so grateful that our longtime partners at CSB volunteered their mighty efforts! Thank you Cambridge Savings Bank! 💙💙

We’re thrilled to celebrate and cut the ribbon for our newly relocated and expanded Adult Shelter in Davis Square!

Thank you to everyone who joined us; it’s our great privilege to celebrate with Somerville’s own Mayor Jake Wilson, Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, our wonderful partners at First Church Somerville, our Board of Directors, our community and local business supporters and friends all; your energy made it truly special.

Nobody should have to sleep on our streets. Everyone deserves a safe place to rest and to get the support to move forward. This new space is a place to sleep; and it’s also a launchpad to help every guest find their way to a permanent, stable home.

Please join us in celebrating this milestone and thank you for being part of this journey with us!💙

In case you didn’t know: our food pantry, Project SOUP, hosts community meals nearly every Monday night. Tim is a regular at the pantry, helping our clients select nutritious food to take home, but this Monday, he brought his culinary talents to the kitchen! After cooking all weekend long, Tim and his family served up pulled pork with sauces, grilled chicken, secret-recipe mac & cheese, and plenty of fixins; all enjoyed indoors, safe from the pouring rain!
