At our final summer market yesterday, we had the honor of welcoming Congresswoman Katherine Clark and State Representative Marjorie Decker !

It was a bustling market, serving more than 110 households from Cambridge. Hosted at the Martin Luther King Jr. School, the market gave school families the opportunity to stock up on fresh produce and pantry staples to carry them through the final week of summer before school begins.

We are so grateful for the support and advocacy of Congresswoman Clark and Rep. Decker, especially as the needs of our constituents continue to grow. At a time when our food access safety net is facing significant decline, their partnership, support, and advocacy are more critical than ever.

Through Just Eats and Food Recovery, Food For Free delivers fresh groceries, quality recovered food, and healthy snacks to local youth-serving organizations, including YMCA Somerville and Moses Youth Center, helping students stay nourished after school.

We’d like to share our thanks with Representative Christine Barber, who secured a $50,000 earmark for Food For Free in the Massachusetts FY27 State Budget!💚

Representative Barber has been a longtime supporter of Food For Free, and her advocacy secured our first state earmark to specifically support our work in Somerville. This $50,000 investment comes at a critical moment and will help us strengthen our school-based food access programs in Somerville, supporting local students and families with access to healthy, nutritious food.

We’re grateful for Representative Barber’s leadership, advocacy, and commitment to addressing food insecurity in Somerville. It truly takes all of us working together to make this work possible.

A huge thank you to State Senator Sal DiDomenico, Steve Owens for State Representative , and their incredible teams for volunteering at our Summer School Market!

One of the joys of our summer markets is the opportunity to connect directly with our community while making sure families have access to fresh, nutritious foods they want to eat. This team didn’t skip a beat—jumping right in to help distribute fresh summer produce to more than 100 households!

20,000 pounds of fresh produce—recovered and headed to our community. 🥕🍋🥦

When this year's Produce & Floral Expo came to a close, Food For Free and an incredible team of volunteers got to work collecting, sorting and loading fresh food that might otherwise have gone to waste.

All this fresh produce will now be distributed through our community partners, helping ensure that more people have access to nourishing food.

And huge thank-you to Encore Boston Harbor for hosting the Expo and supporting our food recovery efforts!

Hunger doesn’t end when the school bell rings. Food For Free supports students and families all year round. 🎒🍎

Our free School and Summer Markets offer fresh produce and pantry staples, even during the summer months when students are on vacation, while Carrot Cards give families the freedom to choose foods that meet their cultural and dietary needs, keeping school-aged children fed and food on the table.

This year, we’re expanding our School Markets to Revere and Roxbury -- helping even more families access the healthy food they need.

Food is more than nourishment—it's also an opportunity to build healthier communities. 💚🥕

This summer, we're grateful to partner with the Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Program through the Cambridge Public Health Department and Cambridge Health Alliance Cambridge Health Alliance at our Summer School Markets. Alongside fresh, nutritious food, the HEAL team has been sharing healthy recipes, cooking inspiration, and practical nutrition resources to help families make the most of the ingredients they bring home.

Together, we're making healthy eating more accessible, approachable, and delicious—one recipe at a time. Thank you to our partners for helping us connect our community with the tools and knowledge to thrive!

🍅🥕🥭 We had a great Summer Market yesterday afternoon at East Somerville Community School, where families were able to choose from a wide variety of fresh foods. We were grateful to have extra helping hands from Somerville City Councilors, Jon Link and Ben Wheeler for Somerville , who joined us to distribute and restock food throughout the market. Their support helped ensure that families had choice, dignity, and access to every fresh item available.

We love seeing local leaders show up for food access and to support Food For Free’s work in partnership with the Somerville Family Learning Collaborative. Together, we’re making fresh, healthy food more accessible for our neighbors.
