PSA: Scam Alert

The Somerville Police Department has recently received reports of a scam targeting residents.

Victims receive a phone call from someone claiming to represent a credit card company, such as American Express or CitiBank, and are told that a credit card opened in their name has been linked to criminal activity. The caller then transfers the victim to a supposed law enforcement agency, where an individual posing as a police officer requests that they file a report through a video platform such as Webex.

During the call, victims are asked to provide personal information, including their driver's license, Social Security number, financial information, and details about family members.

Residents should be aware that legitimate law enforcement agencies will never ask for sensitive personal information through video conferencing platforms, nor will they take official statements through apps such as WhatsApp, Teams, or similar services.

If you receive such a call, do not provide any personal information. Hang up immediately and contact the organization directly using a verified phone number.

Historic day at the SPD!

Last week, for the first time in history, the Somerville Police Department was led entirely by two female supervisors during a shift. Sergeant Cassandra Campers was the Officer in Charge and Sergeant Courtney Reece was the Patrol Supervisor. This milestone marks a powerful moment of progress for our community and representation in law enforcement. Sergeants Campers and Reece are part of the future of our Police Department and will surely be an inspiration to other females in law enforcement.

On Thursday, May 14th, 2026 The Metro Boston CIT TTAC completed their last 40 hour, 5 day Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training of the fiscal year! This training is aimed at informing response to individuals impacted by behavioral health. Led by the Metro Boston team, instructors with various expertise including clinical and tactical knowledge are brought in to expand participant's insight on topics such as Complex Psychiatric Conditions, Crisis Negotiation, Addiction, Mood Disorders and many more. Many came out for the music. Behind the scenes a citywide team came together to help Porchfest 2o26 safe, organized, and running smoothly from start to finish.

The PD rolled out at 10 a.m., ready for an afternoon dedicated to supporting our community. The whole team showed up — from our Patrol Officers, Detectives, Motorcycle Unit and Bicycle Team to our Deputy Chiefs, Captains, Lieutenants, Sergeants and of course, our Chief, who wouldn’t miss this opportunity to connect with the community.

The Somerville Police Department mourns the line of duty death of the Boston Fire Firefighter Robert "Bobby" Kilduff Jr. of Rescue Company, who was killed while battling a fire in Dorchester. We extend our deepest condolences to the Kilduff family and fellow firefighters during this difficult time. Rest in Peace Firefighter Kilduff.

The Somerville Police Department partnered with the Mystic Tenants Association in the “Bike for Families” program to teach children and families about bike safety, bike knowledge, rules of the road, and basic repairs so they can feel confident owning and maintaining their bikes. Lieutenant Samir Messaoudi and Officer Priscilla Ribeiro arrived in their Police bicycles and also brought a bunch of swags to give away, including helmets and lights. Thank you Mystic Tenants Association for providing this opportunity for us to engage with our community.
