Volunteer's Plea: Frustrated but Grateful 💙
"As someone who spends countless hours collecting donations from Fayette Cares clothing bins, I need to speak from the heart — and a place of frustration mixed with deep care. Every week, I see the good intentions of our community overshadowed by what’s left outside the bins. Bags torn open, clothes soaked from rain, or items ruined by animals. I often have to load these ruined donations into my own car just to dispose of them — costing Fayette Cares time, money, and precious resources that should go toward helping families in need.
"Please, I BEG YOU: respect the donation guidelines. We can only accept small quantities of clean, gently used or new CLOTHING (the kind you’d proudly wear yourself ) and it must fit fully inside the bins. When items are left outside, they cannot be used, no matter how generous your intentions.
"We are a small, grassroots nonprofit working hard to help our neighbors in crisis. Fayette Cares doesn't have the staff or budget to handle large or mixed loads (items that are not clothing/apparel). If you have more to give, please consider taking those to larger organizations better equipped for that.
"Your thoughtful, high-quality donations make a difference. Please help us focus on what matters most — supporting families, restoring dignity, and keeping hope alive right here at home."
With gratitude,
— A Caring Fayette Cares Volunteer 💙
