🌲🎯Safe kids at summer camp! 🎯🌲

County Director, Haley Duffey, had the pleasure of training Pinecrest Camp & Retreat Center's counselors with the Stewards of Children presentation earlier this week. Pinecrest has been prioritizing camper safety in this way for YEARS and we are so happy to partner with them summer after summer.
☀️🏊🍧🏹
The counselors were so engaged with the training- asking informed questions, facilitating meaningful conversations, and thinking critically about how the training could apply to real life scenarios.
☀️🏊‍♂️🍧🏹
Recognizing the signs of child abuse and knowing how to react responsibly is so important. Rest assured- if you send your children to Pinecrest this summer, they will be surrounded by educated, safe adults!

🌟Let’s take a stroll down memory lane as we celebrate Kendall’s 4 years of service at the Carl Perkins Center!!!🌟

From office manager to victim advocate, Kendall has given her all the last 4 years for the children and families we serve. She is the first smile they see when they open the door, the best playmate when the children have to wait for the adults to talk, and she is excellent at helping to pick out snacks & stuffed animals. She’s been to countless court dates, and is always prepared with a bag of fun and snacks, if needed.

Not only is Kendall great fun for the kids, but she is a constant support and encourager for caregivers, and a source of knowledge and aid when needed. She not only loves on our families, but also our colleagues in the field. She’s known for taking treats to court on special occasions, and adding a little fun to our monthly Child Protective Investigative Team meetings. Kendall is a tremendous support to our director and therapist and we just don’t know what we would do without her!

Next time you see Kendall, be sure to tell her THANK YOU for all she does to help children and families heal from child abuse!! You can also leave her comment below! 😉

In therapy, art is an important form of expression. With this exercise, colors were assigned to feelings, and the child was instructed to use the colors to show where certain feelings live in their body.

How do you interpret this picture?

I see angry hands that ball into fists in an attempt to hold the feelings inside. I feel the sadness in head that the child tries to mask with happiness in an attempt to feel normal again. I see fear in a private area that was touched without consent which is surrounded by guilt in the stomach because the child feels that what happened may be their fault. Nervousness is found in the feet and knees as they are unsure of what their next steps forward look like after the abuse.

A young child may not have the words and language to vocalize such feelings, but art gave them a voice. The Carl Perkins Center gave them a voice and aided this child on their path to healing. When you support the center, you support healing such as this 💙🩵

✨Do you like helping people?✨

Our Victim Advocate, Kendall Bullock, and our Clinical Therapist, Mickala Cozart, spent the morning with students at Buckley Carpenter Elemantary School’s career fair. Passing out stickers, sharing information about the field of Social Work, and engaging with students is always a morning well spent. 🩵

🌱🌷Spring Reset!🌷🌱

Celeste Koglin and Michael Miller with the Fayette County Master Gardeners came out to tend to our flower beds this week and boy did we need their help! For a while there, you could not see where the weeds ended and the plants began. But no more! We are trimmed, weeded, planted, and pruned. Our flower beds are ready to grow and prosper all summer long! Thanks guys!

As Child Abuse Prevention Month comes to an end on the calendar, we reflect on how much fun we had engaging with the community throughout the month- fundraisers, spring fest, the prayer breakfast, and more. However just because April is over, does not mean that our jobs are finished. Preventing and dealing with child abuse is a 365 day job!
⭐️🩵⭐️
We will continue to meet families where they are, provide support in tough situations, and positively impact the lives of children who have experienced abuse. We hope that you continue to support us throughout the year as well!
⭐️🩵⭐️
Thank you to Sign Gypsies of Oakland for the awesome sign that kicked off the month in front of the courthouse and all of the many businesses/schools that displayed our signs! We love to see Fayette County covered in blue💙
