We kicked off a new program year yesterday with the Class of 2026 and had some fun getting to know each other.

We want to thank our AMAZING partners, Conrad Colon and Lisa Rothenburger, for hosting us at Somerset County 4-H, guiding us through the True Colors personality assessment, and facilitating team building exercises.

As Conrad said, “Anyone can be a leader, and I would argue that they already are. You are somebody’s mentor, somebody’s friend. If you want to see your community change, you have to step up. The folks here at Leadership Somerset are taking that first step to change and grow their community.”

For those looking to help a neighbor in need this holiday season, consider participating in this Adopt-a-Family initiative. Just $48 will help feed a family of six. https://www.somersetcountynj.gov/Home/Components/News/News/6759/17

Through a $48 donation to a participating local food bank or pantry, you can help make a neighbor’s holiday brighter. That $48 will help assure a family of 6 is provided a nutritious meal by our food bank partners.

“Somerset County’s Adopt-A-Family program has been helping feed families in need during the Thanksgiving holidays for 15 years now,” said Commissioner Elizabeth Graner. “This year, we are expanding the program to help individuals and families celebrate not only Thanksgiving but all the winter holiday celebrations that make the upcoming cold months so much warmer. I am honored to make this donation, and I am grateful that I am in a position where I can do so. If you need help do not hesitate to reach out to our food distribution partners – they are terrific and always find a way to be there for those in need.”

Happy Halloween! We hope you have lots of fun today with all the trick-or-treaters and perhaps a ghoulish party or two. Reminder: the 2026 application deadline has been extended until Nov. 14.

We want to thank the Manville Library for being a such an awesome host of our Oct. 22 session! We also want to thank Aimee Lamb (Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County), Lynn Hoffman (Somerset County Library System of New Jersey), and Paul Muniz for taking time to share their expertise with the Class of 2025.
