We are hosting EXTRA volunteer hours this week to finish one of our big summer projects—constructing a new community garden for the Mystic Apartments! Join us this Thursday at the field behind 50 Memorial Road to finish filling the new beds with soil 🪏

The next generation of climate leaders is creating more green space in Somerville! 🌱

This season, the Green Team partnered with
Mystic Learning Center to install a new garden for their child care programs. Last week, the team visited again to say hi to the garden, w**d and mulch, and add a new trellis! 🪏

We’re excited to watch this new garden flourish this season and beyond as it teaches and feeds our community 💚

The next generation of climate leaders is creating more green space in Somerville! 🌱

🍦 Groundwork Somerville is partnering with Gerly’s Ice Cream for a fundraising event on August 19th! 

Join us for a hands-on workshop where we will make our own homemade ice cream from scratch with Gerly and her team. Learn from the best of the best! 🎉 

Every ticket includes two pints of ice cream to take home and a tasting of some of Gerly’s signature flavors. 🍨

Join the Somerville Pedestrian & Transit Advisory Committee (PTAC), Assembly Connect, Somerville Alliance for Safe Streets (SASS), and neighbors to assess how safe, accessible, and comfortable it is to walk in Somerville’s Assembly Square.

Assembly Square is surrounded by some of the most dangerous roads in Somerville. Our collective goal is to evaluate Assembly Square’s current status, share feedback with relevant decision-makers, and inform future planning efforts in the neighborhood.

The Summer Green Team is here! ☀️

At the end of the first week, the Green Team took a trip to the Blue Hills to explore the largest urban green space east of the Mississippi! We hiked to Eliot Tower, talked with the meteorologist at the weather observatory, awed at the Boston skyline, and even saw some cute animals at the end! ⛰️🦦

Fun fact: Every single day since 1885, there has been someone on site at the Blue Hill Observatory & Science Center measuring climate data –– everything from the daily amount of sunlight to the date of each season’s first ripe blueberry! The Green Team got to see how our own climate data collection fits into a long history of environmentalism.

A big thank you to everyone from the Friends of Blue Hills who made this all possible for our team! It was an unforgettable experience! 🤩🌄
